They evidently don’t want to risk sinking their careers the way Ray Fisher did.

The response to the Batgirl movie cancellation was "blown out of proportion," according to Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels.

Speaking with Variety while doing press for his new movie The Whale, Brendan Fraser touched on the fate of Batgirl at HBO Max:
"It's disappointing. The fans really wanted to see this film made. I was there. Leslie Grace is a dynamo... She just goes for it. She looks great in the outfit. The movie itself was shot and conceived for a smaller screen, in this age it would have come out of now between streaming service vs. theatrical release. It wound up being the canary in the coal mine. So, what did we learn from this? Work with trusted filmmakers. Like Darren."

Asked his thoughts on Warner Bros. Discovery axing Batgirl, a film which we were also expected to seem reprise the caped crusader, Keaton answered, “I think it was a business decision. It was a film, it was a good one.”

Keaton’s been pretty upfront about the fact that he doesn’t really care for these films, beyond the paycheck. In a way, I can respect that.

As reported by THR, a leading Hollywood talent rep has stated that Warner Bros. Discovery's decisions have left things in a rough place following Batgirl's cancelation, which has tainted the DCEU for actors and even behind-the-scenes talent. With decisions to shelve movies, move release dates, and continually revamp films in post-production, working within the DCEU is becoming a lackluster prospect. And according to the rep, they are jobs that nobody wants. Check out the rep's comments below: "Zaslav doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. That’s scary. And you’re always going to be compared to Marvel. It’s unfair. By the time they were being judged, it was working. It’s the exact opposite at Warner. It’s rough all around. Who the f*** would want that job?"

Check out what Fraser has to say below:
"...It’s tragic. It doesn’t engender trust among filmmakers and the studio. Leslie Grace was fantastic. She’s a dynamo, just a spot-on performer. Everything that we shot was real and exciting and just the antithesis of doing a straightforward digital all green screen thing. They ran firetrucks around downtown Glasgow at 3 in the morning and they had flamethrowers. It was a big-budget movie, but one that was just stripped down to the essentials."

The Russo Brothers, known for their longstanding relationship with Marvel, told Variety that the move was unprecedented. “It’s rare that I can think of something that high profile, that expensive, that was murdered in such a way,” Joe Russo said of the Batgirl debacle. “It’s sad, but we’re at a time in the business where corporate sociopathy is going to rear its head because people are scared.”
