Well. This may create complications for me watching here in Canada...right now the show is simulcast with the NBC Buffalo affiliate on a Canadian network (Global TV) at 1pm eastern every day. I wonder if Global will continue to air the show. Twist! NBC’s Days of Our Lives Is Moving to Peacock

Wow! I'm not sure I want to subscribe to another streaming service just to watch Days.

I just saw this on Facebook. Not entirely surprising, but I can't imagine it'll last more than a year or two online. If it was more of a mainstream platform, maybe - like, hard maybe; and even then, I think the best motivation would be to hold it out until it's next milestone anniversary, but that's three years out. If NBC wasn't willing to ride it out much longer, I can't see Peacock doing it. Of course the big question is if they're going to keep it daily or dial it back.
My guess is that they'll maintain the status quo to start, but within a year they'll probably reduce the frequency; and who knows to what. Would it be the same if they only made it once a week with such a large cast and various (if albeit meandering) stories? Or maybe they'll double down on the Beyond Salem format, and switch to a mini-series-esque run of X episodes at a chunk; and do multiple clusters of that throughout the year. Quite possible the natural progression over a year or two's time, before inevitable cancellation...
It amazes me how, this article and others talks about how low rated Days has been, and how Sony and NBC are always negotiating last minute deals to keep the show going on an even tighter budget. Yet, do they think about trying to make the show better, or have the show runners and networks just written off that possibility entirely? I'll never understand Corday's assembly belt approach. I read his book a few years back, he seems to genuinely love the show, but is it worth it to keep it alive if it's not good?
I mean, sure, there's every chance Peacock will try to find a balance between the quality I've heard they put into the spin-offs, they're not going to be able to do that on a daily basis; not without some serious funding to back that up. Again, maybe if it were a more mainstream platform.

Wow! I honestly didn’t see this coming this soon. Color me shocked! I do subscribe to Peacock and I think that eventually all networks will die off and streaming will be the future.
That said, I think that Days will not last much longer. Perhaps they will do smaller and shorter miniseries? It’s not the show it once was. I applaud the fact that given all the constraints and budget cuts, it actually still entertains. There’s just no more listening to the audience anymore and the production schedule makes it impossible to course correct any horrible storyline that fans don’t like.
I will continue to watch because I have Peacock but I will be okay the day the final plug gets pulled on this long running series.

I feel like this is the nail in the coffin. Many Days viewers are older. They don't want to subscribe to multiple platforms or don't subscribe to them at all - they still have cable. Young people aren't interested in soaps...who is going to watch on Peacock?
It will also impact international viewers like myself. Without the simulcast to air here, I doubt any Canadian networks will pick up the episodes from Peacock to air them on cable. So they will either not bother airing it, or move the episodes to another streaming platform if they do. if it's the one that currently has the Canadian rights to Beyond Salem (StackTV), well that is an extra $14/month add on to Amazon Prime Video - no thanks! I agree with Bookworm, I don't really want to subscribe to MORE streamers just to watch Days...I already have so many and it's expensive.
I have to agree with Stargazer, very little effort into improving the show. it really has become an assembly line.
On a plus side, there is very little reason for me to even keep my cable at this point. I only have it currently because it was cheaper for me to bundle it with my internet service than to just get internet on its own. I basically only watch Days, Jeopardy, a few shows on PBS, and the news occasionally on cable now.
What will they put in Days' place on NBC? More of those vapid round table talk shows? I can't even watch them - people talk over each other, they talk about stupid things. I actually feel dumb watching them. No thanks.

So, apparently another news show is going to fill the hour currently occupied by DOOL. I give some kudos to NBC for thinking outside the box and trying this experiment. But, as you mentioned, soaps skewers to an older audience and many won’t follow it to Peacock. But, apparently, Beyond Salem 2 did very well for Peacock and a lot of people only subscribe short term to binge watch certain shows and then cancel that subscription shortly afterwards. I heard that Peacock is also going to have the entire catalog of Days episodes as well. This might be a winner for long term subscriptions? I guess time will tell. Hopefully, some platform will air the show internationally without a big hike in fans budgets.

But yeah, it's hard to know how to feel about this. It doesn't... sound good. But at the same time, the writing's on the wall, and TV is clearly switching to streaming. I have my doubts that networks are going to feature scripted programming at all 10 years from now. So, if Days was going to last, this was going to come sooner or later. Still doesn't mean the show's going to last though. But, honestly, it's been on borrowed time for a decade. If it does end, it had a good run and I'll miss it, but it's a shell of its former self and maybe it's for the best.

I haven't heard any info on what's happening up here but I guess I will find out soon. We do not have the option to subscribe to many of the US streamers (Hulu, Peacock, HBO Max) and so any of the exclusive shows they have on those streamers we either miss, or we get them through our streamers here if they have an exclusive deal...we have gotten some Hulu things on Prime and on Disney+ here for example.
Like you said, I will be sad when it ends but also the showing ending is likely going to be the only thing to get me to stop watching and I could be put out of my misery any time now ha ha
Everyone cut cable to go to streaming to save money and now all the streaming costs more than cable. What a mess.

Seems Deidre wasn't the only person they have doing the move message. I saw James Reynolds did one, and now I just saw one with Peter Reckell. www.facebook.com/watch?v=5318091338287945He says "he'll be watching" it on Peacock, but I feel like, if they've got him doing promos for the move, they must be planning on him returning regularly to the show - and maybe he already has, and they haven't announced it. I don't know if they could keep that under wraps, but they're back to being so far ahead again, and it seems like there's a lot they manage to keep from fans these days until stuff is closer to airing. 🤔

I am in progress on Beyond Salem 2, so I don't quite know how it ends with HeavenBo, but I assume he will be alive and back on the show at some point.
I saw his promo and James'. And also the one with Galen and Ari, so many people on the Days FB are quitting after watching for decades because they don't stream or can't afford it. It's a shame it has to move to streaming or a paid platform. I don't know how it will survive.
Still no idea how any of this will impact what we see in Canada.

I finished watching Beyond Salem. Wow. I have so many thoughts.
The ending with Bo waking up from cyro was the best part. The only good part really. Oh and when Hope saw Zach, that made me emotional. It was so gut-wrenching when he died and KA was good in those scenes.
1. The acting was especially bad, from everyone. Andrew, NuJoey, Li's sister, Megan, they were all awful. The regular cast was also brutal. So much "smell the fart" acting. 2. The only one I thought was ok was Steve Burton. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the main show. 3. The sets were terrible. So small and cramped! When Andrew was at the craps table and practically standing in the curtains. ugh. 4. The story was stupid. Were these prisms a story in the 80s? All of the stuff with Megan happened before I ever started watching so I wasn't familiar with her other than the basics. 5. The scenes with Eileen and her real husband were funny but then it just went so sour when she turned into Thomas Banks and then Sister Mary Moira. Oye.
Overall I thought BS2 was quite bad. I didn't expect much but it was worse than normal. I am curious how they will weave Bo's return into the show however. And if he will return or just for the BS specials.

I didn’t want to say too much about BS2 because I knew you hadn’t seen it yet but it was pretty bad. I liked the first one. The only thing that saved the second one for me was the Bo and Hope reunion. Loretta Divine was atrocious as the Angel who was with Bo. I thought it was great that they brought back Larry Welch and Megan Hathaway but it was obvious that she hasn’t been acting since she left DOOL almost 40 years ago. I do think it was a nice send off for Ciara and Ben and I liked the ending with Bo being alive.
I actually liked Andrew Donovan and I thought he had great chemistry with Paul. I hope they come back to the main show but that might be gay overkill for some Days fans. Even the gay pride party at Paul’s place was a bit too much for me. It was just stupid silly.
I actually like nu-Stephanie, but I actually thought the old Joey was better than this new one. That’s setting the bar absolutely low. Everything else was just a mess.

I was actually shocked at how bad it was. I didn't expect much but I assumed it would be better. The acting was really atrocious. Just awful awful, even people like Mary Beth and Camila Banus who are usually decent were awful.
I didn't think there was any reason to bring Andrew as a love interest for Paul since neither of them is on the main show. I wasn't sold on the actor who played Andrew, and I usually like Paul but I thought he was bad in this and I thought they were too eager with each other.
Josh Taylor as Chris Kositchek was so bizarre. I didn't get the point of it at all. Chris just disappeared from Salem, no word of where he went. He owned that fitness club in town.
I don't mind NuSteph either but yes, I preferred the old Joey as well, and yeah, not saying much.
I also found out that they are moving Days from our regular local channel to a premium cable channel here starting on Monday. Still airing at 1pm but if you don't pay extra for this channel, you won't be able to see Days. I get this channel (basically like our Hallmark Channel, they show a lot of those movies and shows) so I'll still be able to watch but I also have to use this as one of my add on channels in my cable package. Hmmmm.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the prisms was a story back in the 80s; just as Hope explains it, where Stefano was trying to use them to prolong his life (back when the show gave a crap about explaining him extending life or pretending he was actually ever dead for real...). I never saw it, or at least, I was too young to remember it if I did, but I know I've read about it; so I was familiar with the plot when I saw the synopsis for BS2. I didn't really watch it either, apart from the last scene, when I read some stuff that pointed to that outcome; and then a couple of random clips that popped up as recommended on YouTube. Definitely wasn't impressed by what little I saw.
