I don't see it happening in the near future, especially since they are building a new library just down the street from where I live... But, with all the digital articles and books that we have now, and with the way the most of the younger generations don't want to do anything, unless there is a computer screen in front of them... I can see it happening one day.
However, with the way some companies are pushing NFTs (non-fungible tokens) to keep making money off of old products...
...That trend may accelerate the downfall of books made of paper.

From the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Shockwave, Part II" Temporal Agent Daniels : Books! Made with paper. There aren't supposed to be books here.Captain Archer : Well, there are. So I suggest we use some of them to figure out what you did to the last thousand years when you brought me here this morning.

The paperless society has been predicted since about the turn of the 20th century but, even in the computer age, we are awash in paper. It is not going to happen soon, if ever.

I suspect that at some point we'll have flexible plastic books printed from 3D printers. They'll be more durable than paper and can be reconverted into material to save on space.

More than a century. They'll become collector's items at some point.

More than a century. They'll become collector's items at some point. Don't forget the Dust Jackets to protect those collectibles, and increase their value as well.

A.I. overlords of the future may cease & desist humanity from physical literature, so maybe 16 more years or so.

Not likely to ever happen. Who doesn't like to fall asleep with a book in their hands and a soft light above. And for more practical purposes, many of us are far better at using books than electronics.
