If you've been one of those folks who for the last five years have been saying "Who cares about Avatar?", you need to come see the line to get into Pandora -- The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
On second thought, don't. The queue right now, on the land's official opening day, snakes out of the area, past the Tree of Life, back toward the park entrance, then doubles back toward Discovery Island.
Disney staff estimates on the waiting time have already ranged from three to six hours just to set foot on Pandora.

We'll see what's what when the sequels come out.

I've heard that the "Flight of Passage" ride is supposed to be really cool. It supposedly includes sprays of water when you travel towards a waterfall, fans for wind, and different scents. It plays out a lot like "Soarin", which is also in Disney World.
All that being said, I wasn't a big fan of the movie itself. I would still visit the park, though.

I'm assuming that when people say "no one cares about Avatar", what they mean to say is that people kind of stopped talking about it. It's the highest grossing movie of all time, sure, but that had to do primarily with the novelty behind it. It was James Cameron's first movie since Titanic, it had groundbreaking CG, and it took full advantage of the 3D tickets, which was still a recent thing for a mainstream film at the time.
These days though, the hype's kind of whithered away. There's not really any demand for the sequels as fear as I know, and the revival of the Star Wars franchise seems to have taken away from Avatar's potential of being THE next big as sci-fi franchise.

I wouldn't mind a sequel but even though it's barely a decade, it feels too late.

Didn't care about it then, don't care about it now, and won't care about it when the sequels arrive.

The hype has certainly died down over the years.

Avatar? You mean Ferngull-ahontas right?
The park will work because the visuals were the only interesting part of the film...so being able to enter the world has a draw.
And I might go see the sequels just to see what the visuals are, but if the second one is as badly written as the first, the third will tank.

well I don't.
I remember seeing it on dvd/bluray, and liked it quite a bit, and when it was released with 20 more minutes or something a friend and I went in to see it...........I then spent about 2 hours or 3 hours wishing I hadn't.

I missed it in the theatres, but bought a DVD which contained both the theatrical and director's cut, as well as extended edition. I figured I'd see the theatrical cut, just to see what everyone else had seen, first. And watch the director's cut and extended version later. This was back in 2010. I have still only watched the theatrical cut.

I do. Cameron has inspired me to become a filmmaker more than any other director and his Avatar really opened up the doors for me.
