Some ideas... • Hide them in the room. • Write on the first page, “Darwin rules! "or “Once upon a time...” or “This is all bullshit.” • Bookmark and highlight Ezekiel 23:20 - “There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.” • Or Ezekiel 4:12 - And you shall eat the food as you would a barley cake, after you bake it over dried human excrement in the sight of the people.” • Edit Leviticus 18:22 - Thou shalt not lie with mankind if thou desires, as with womankind: it is not an abomination. Then write in the margins “It is fine with Jesus.“ • Exodus 20:14 (The 10 Commandments), write "Half stroke God's ego, nothing about slavery, rape, or homosexuality." Underline adultery. • John 3:16 write "Unproven, hearsay." • Put a note inside, "Satan was here." • Have your kids draw pictures in it. • Place atheist reading materials alongside it, or the U.N. Declaration of Human rights. • Go to the page at the beginning that says “If you need help with...”. Write, in all seriousness, that people will give them real help, then give resource links or phone numbers. Or place one of these stickers.

Occasionally other religious groups leave scriptures and/or religious literature in hotels too (eg: Buddhist scriptures and/or literature, etc). Should you do the same with those too?

I have never found a bible in a hotel room. I have NEVER, EVER, been in a hotel room, without one in the drawer of the night table beside the bed. They are free for the people to take them home with them, in fact. Occasionally, I have even been in hotel rooms with religious material, such as other kinds of scriptures in them too, right alongside the Gideon International Bibles.

I've heard of people who hand them to the bellboy and ask that he remove this trash during their stay. I've also heard of hotels/motels that refuse to allow religious books in their rooms.
I've often wondered: Who is the legal owner of a Bible in a hotel room. If the hotel reluctantly accepted it, does it belong to the hotel? Does it still belong to the donor? Is it considered abandoned property and may be taken by the hotel guest? Is it legally trash that is free to be discarded? In other words, if I do any of the options proposed by the O.P., am I defacing someone else's property?

Hmm. Had I known anything about the "CONTENT ADVISORY" I might have thumbed through one. There, certainly, isn't much on TV.

I like the editing stuff; I am a former professional proofreader. I always have a red pen in my purse. I might also suggest leaving it prominently visible in the trash can, or leaving it in the bathroom, some pages torn out, and a note about running out of toilet paper. I am sick to death of others thinking that religious freedom means they are free to impose their religion on other people. There are a few books that could be left in the drawer next to the bible, "God is not Great" by Christopher Hitchens, "The Demon-Haunted World, science as a candle in the Dark" by Carl Sagan, I think. Or perhaps just a children's book of fairytales.

Nobody is forced to read them Actually, some hotels do have other religious literature besides the Gideon Bibles in their hotel rooms. I myself, have stayed at 2 hotels that also had the Book of Mormon besides the Bible, & 1 hotel that had Buddhist literature, complete with quotes & stories about the Buddha in them, besides the Bible.

I gotta say I am a bit surprised at this stance, I feel like it's a long way between leaving the opportunity for people to read something and forcing one religion on someone. Having said that I see no reason why there should not be other religions texts in hotel rooms.

• Or Ezekiel 4:12 - And you shall eat the food as you would a barley cake, after you bake it over dried human excrement in the sight of the people.” If Jehovah is all knowing, how come, three sentences later (Ezekiel 4:15) does Yahweh change his mind and tell you it's OK to cook with cow manure rather than human poop.

Just ran a poll on reddit. They could even cheat and look at the answer first. Not only did the vast majority not know, many thought there were interludes between books.(my Deut. vote was the only way it would let me see the results)

I have never found a bible in a hotel room. Well fewer and fewer hotels in Norway ave bibles in their rooms these days, that tradition has ben gradually filtered out in the
90'ies.
You can still find them in the hotels of most English speaking countries though. Not that I (or most people) bothers to look for them).

They take up room in the nightstand drawer! They are the only things in the nightstand drawer, so unless you are overloaded with smaller items when staying at a hotel, they are not taking up any space, anymore than any other book would be.
