Films about writers of fiction, non-fiction, poets, playwrights, screenwriters -- real or not, successful or not. I'll start with these, among my favorites: Shakespeare in Love (1998) - the Bard living out the story of Romeo and Juliet, directed by John Madden
Little Women (1994) - young Jo March struggling to become a writer (this version is my favorite), directed by Gillian Armstrong
[Post adjusted to remove newspaper writers/reporters; as Richard Kimble noted, that's better as a genre unto itself.]

His Girl Friday (1940) - reporter Hildy Johnson wants to retire, but can't, directed by Howard Hawks. Personally I consider newspaper/reporter films a different genre

LINKMax Perkins at the movies: Publisher Jeff Chandler mentions him to aspiring novelist Carol Lynley in Return To Peyton Place Hurd Hatfield plays a character based on him in the 1979 TV version of You Can't Go Home Again. Finally in Cross Creek Perkins himself, played by Malcolm McDowell, shows up at the backwoods home of Marjorie Rawlings to get her working on her book.

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS isnt "about" writers but it features Gertrude Stein, Alice B Toklas, Scott & Zelda Fitzgerald and a wonderful Hemingway in Corey Stoll as characters in the plot.
