Thank you Raven King. I didn’t know about this movie. Oh, and there’s also this, a true story of some of the members of The Beat Generation during their earlier years at Columbia University.:

Don't know if Göethe have been mentioned. Young Goethe in Love 2010 a German production that was simply called Goethe! there. There were a few earlier movies like Goethe's Jugendgeliebte 1930 and Der junge Goethe 1919.

I've been trying to think of films about Russian writers, but the only one I can think of at the moment is about a fictional writer (though I'm sure in some ways it's a bit autobiographical, too), written by Boris Pasternak. And I just re-watched this about a novelist who becomes a screenwriter. Not great but entertaining, and Streisand and Redford are wonderful together.

I started to watch The Squid and the Whale, which is about writers, but the people and the story were so repellant that I did a rare thing and gave it up after about thirty minutes.

Haven't seen this one, Penn, but based upon what you say, I will probably think twice before I do. Great cast; don't understand why it needed to be "repellent" in any way.

Theodora Goes Wild (1936) Dir. Richard Boleslawski. Irene Dunne in her first comedy role plays mousy Theodora Lynn, she is known for playing the organ at church and teaching Sunday school in her small New England town. Under the pen name Caroline Adams, Theodora has secretly written a best-selling novel called “Sinner”, the racy text has scandalized the conservative town after instalments are published in the local newspaper...

A thoroughly delightful film, planet, one that I always enjoy. Irene Dunne is wonderful in it, and Melvyn Douglas is great opposite her. It's a real treat for anyone interested in the cast and/or the romantic comedy genre of that era.
