Jays pass the Rays.
Mike Trout should demand a trade.

Damn! What crazy 9th inning Braves @ Mariners yesterday. Braves scored 5 top of the 9th to go ahead, but Mariners 2 HR in the bottom of the 9th to knock Braves out of 1st place. Huge games for two rookie superstars - Michael Harris and Julio Rodriguez. Julio in particular, that’s a guy any team would covet.

The Braves has some incredible farm system ever since Tom Glavine/John Smoltz/Chipper Jones came up in the early 90s. After that, they got Kimbrel and McCann, and then Freeman and Ozuna and Swanson and Fried and Acuna. One may have thought enough. Now Harris III and Strider.

Yeah dude, with the Dodgers, Atlanta is the best run organization in the game from top to bottom. You can throw the Rays in there too, I guess, just based on what they're able to accomplish on a shoestring budget, but they haven't won anything. But the Braves just do everything right from a player development standpoint. And now having locked up Acuna, Albies, Olson, Riley and Harris for the next 7 years, you just have to tip your cap to them. AND, I went to the deGrom start in Atlanta a few weeks ago at the new stadium, and two things they did that are brilliant. First, right outside the stadium is a huge area with tons of restaurants and bars. Nothing new there, but in the area it's pedestrian only and they have huge screens everywhere broadcasting the game outside. So you can wander around, outside, with a beer and watch the game. I realize a lot of teams do things like this, but I've never seen it done so well. Secondly, inside the stadium they have cordoned-off fridges where you walk up and pick your drink (including a wide beer selection), then just walk up to a cashier and pay for it. This alleviates the entire back-and-forth with a slow-as-shit concession worker negotiation and makes the entire transaction take all of 15 seconds. How that's not a thing in every stadium is amazing.

Atlanta really now how to run a business. If not for the dishonesty of the agent, they would have kept Freeman.

Fried was brilliant, the Braves scored a weird, fluky run at the end of the game (which is funny because they love to whine about luck, but that's another story) but hey, a good game is a good game. And for a bonus, I wasn't on the receiving end of anti-semitic nonsense from redneck assholes this time, which makes for a much more pleasant experience. The weird thing, I don't look remotely jewish, I guess just wearing a Mets jersey means everyone assumes I'm Jewish. Anyway....

Possibly because you had a Met jersey like you said, and it was trash talk. Still, anti-semite remark is strange. He gave you a good story to tell, lol.
deGrom did not have a good game last night. Nevertheless, he is one of my all-time favorite Mets. I am sure to many too. Even back in 2015, with the big 5, including Harvey, Syndergaard, Matz, and Wheeler, I love his quiet demeanor, and his easy dominance. I have drafted him so far every year for my regular Fantasy team.

Yeah man, he's the best pitcher in baseball, hands down. His starts are appointment viewing. Funny thing, yeah he had a bad start - 3 runs, 10 Ks, no walks - probably his worst start since 2020. When you watch him, and guys make solid contact, your mind automatically says "fuck, he's hurt!" Hell, if he goes 3-2 on someone, I start to get concerned. It'll be really interesting to see what happens when he retires and his HOF candidacy comes up. He doesn't have the longevity and accumulated stats. An obvious comp, one that will assuredly rankle the feathers of the sanctimonious, is Sandy Koufax who was just OK for the first half of his career, but then rattled off 5 of the best season we've ever seen. But that's it, and he's considered one the best, if not THE best, to ever do it. If deGrom wins another Cy Young or, *gasp, leads the Mets to a title, I think his enshrinement would be a foregone conclusion. As it stands now, his last 100 starts, dating back to the start of 2018, he's gone 37-23 (meaningless, but the Mets have blown for much of that) with a 1.94 ERA, 0.857 WHIP, 12.1 K/9, and a 6.89 K/BB ratio. That's not just the best in baseball over that span, it's head and shoulders better than anyone else. At one point in June last year, he had more RBI (5) than earned runs allowed (4). HOF rewards longevity but it also rewards historic dominance (as it should). I think deGrom will have a pretty strong case when all is said and done if he stays healthy and puts up another couple of seasons like the past few.

Yadi and Waino just took the field for start No. 325, the new record and one that will likely stand forever.

Vladdy Jr with his 100th career homer.
5-1 over the Rays. They're finally playing playoff caliber baseball when it matters, without getting all goofy about it.

Pujols doesn't hit a dinger, but he did drive in a run with a double giving him 2200 for his career, trailing only Aaron with 2297 and the Babe with 2214. Cards split with the Brew Crew to remain eight games up.

I have no answers. They’re just slumping at an inopportune time. Fortunately, I’m in Spain so the Mets can’t dampen my mood!

The HOF, seemingly more important in how the player finished than how the player started unless the stats are compiled sufficiently. If Don Mattingly's first half of his career and 2nd half flipped, he would have a great chance in the HOF. I would say deGrom needs a few more great years and not have a Lincecum free fall, HOF definite.

That pitcher hung 2 sliders to him the previous at bat. I was very happy he was still on the mound.
