Can you find flaws?
Sure, if you really want to look.
Do they matter?
At least for me, not at all.
One of the most purely fun, and adventurous, movies ever made--a complete joy.
By the by, have any Indy fans seen Valley of the Kings (1954, dir. Robert Pirash, starring Robert Taylor and Eleanor Parker)? One of the closest Indy predecessors I've seen, and a swell little movie in its own right.

Classic adventure, but the villians are too cartoonish to be a movie of real greatness. => Gruber in die-hard
But ok, a Jew like Spielberg wants to get back at us - fair enough.

The funny thing is, it is ALL right there in the Bible for all to see. You speak as if the book were a trustworthy guide to... anything. In fairness, Ms Gadot is a stunningly beautiful woman. Far more so than the vast majority of women from "our own heritage", whatever that's supposed to be. Mrs.: "You are either a feminist or a sexist!"...I thought Jews were smart people.

They do seem to average smarter than most. Or perhaps just more hard working. Whatever the reason, they are a remarkably accomplished group of people. Kudos to them.

Inspired by the beginning of this thread and the "discussion" about the so-called pedophilia by Indiana Jones I RE-re-watched the film.
NO where is the actual age of Indiana or Marian mentioned. NOWHERE ! So this leaves us with the actors: Harrison Ford was 39 when the film was made. Karen Allen was 30 when the film was made. Ten years earlier we get to 29 and 20. She says "I was a child" ... yeah compared to now she was a child .. not LITERALLY a child.
Really. The whole pedophila thing is just so much nonsense. Rather like the "goofs" posts that include really important stuff like "the sticker on the plate on the getaway car was the wrong color for that year" WHO CARES and why are you so out of tune with the film that you are even looking at the damn plate ?
anyway .... for me RAIDERS is a SOLID 10/10 from someone who normally does not DO # ratings. It's Fun. It's Fast ! It's infinitely re-watchable ! It has one of the best little love scenes EVER. "Where does it not hurt ? " (awwwwwww!)

Isn't Valley of the Kings the film that the fellow with the one track mind used to post about constantly on the old IMDb Classics Board ? He would write endless essays comparing it to any film that could even remotely be brought into the "discussion" and then he would get rather violent if disagreed with. Don't recall the name and I never posted as I had not seen the film but the fights were rather "interesting" (in a warped way !)

BATouttaheckValley of the Kings? Really? I mean, I liked it a lot, but it's no great masterpiece. Well, as we know, some people are a little--off, shall we say, and that's often exacerbated by the Internet.

I'm curious to see VALLEY OF THE KINGS, after hearing its comparisons to RotLA.

I'm curious to see VALLEY OF THE KINGS, after hearing its comparisons to RotLA. I'm sure you'll like it if you like Raiders. It's not a great movie by any means, but it's just a lot of fun. I will say that the Robert Taylor character ("Mark Brandon") isn't particularly memorable, and certainly not as well-characterized as Indy. But the plot is remarkably close to Raiders in particular, so much so that Spielberg and Lucas had to see Valley before making their movie; and the whole thing is very adventurous, silly, and fun. Let us know what you think of it when you do get a chance to take a look!

Lots of people seem to think the Bible is a guide--not me but it definitely has its fans. I assume she meant a child in that she was under the age of consent (I think they said it was a 12 year absence--and she was supposed to be around 26 in the story --and she said that it was what caused her father to be mad at his pupil---so Indy betrayed him which is a big sin in its own right. And how does he repay her? He keeps her from being melted by Jahweh, but he isn't even happy to have her around since he preferred the Ark. In the end he gets a welfare check from the government. Winner.

And the submarine scene is indeed quite puzzling. Just how did Indy survive that?

Salzmank,
I've received my copy of VALLEY OF THE KINGS this week. Though I won't be able to watch it until November (October is reserved for all things horror), I will get back with my thoughts on it.
Does the film have it's own thread yet?
