Sigh...I'm going to find it hard to get used to hearing my (distant) kinfolk across the pond sing, "God Save the King."

Sigh...I'm going to find it hard to get used to hearing my (distant) kinfolk across the pond sing, "God Save the King." Lucky for me I rarely (if ever) sing it. The other thing that’ll happen is that a lot of stationery will have to be pulped or phased out.

Some friends, and I were wondering if, given the Queen's age, the government had already begun minting money, printing postage stamps and other official materials, with Charles' image.
I have Pound Sterling, featuring Her Majesty's image, that's left over from previous visits. On the one hand, they might become collectors' items. On the other hand, they've been in circulation for a long time.
The hotel where I like to stay in London is at 101 Buckingham Palace Road, right next to Victoria Station. I'd like to be there, now, to pay tribute.

StammerheadWhat are all those white tents near the palace ? Have you been to or will you be going to see any of the events preceding the funeral ? I was present at the lying in state for the Duke of Windsor at Windsor Castle years ago .... quite a memorable sight.

I also remember talking with a Beefeater, at the Tower of London, many years ago. Their uniforms carry the initials "ER." I asked if that would change to "CR," after the Queen's passing. He said "yes."
Many changes ... major, and less detailed ... must be coming about in the UK, and the Commonwealth. After 70 years, it will be a significant sweep.

I was present at the lying in state for the Duke of Windsor at Windsor Castle years ago .... quite a memorable sight. The white tents are for the big news companies. There are also smaller news people working out of vans with minimal staff and equipment but the ones who fascinated me the most were people recording news reports on their phones using tripods and professional looking microphones. I guess they’ll pop up on YouTube. I’m not a monarchists and, although I feel no animosity towards the people, I won’t go out of my way to be part of the official mourning. I’m more interested in the surrounding activity and, if I was to go, I might be taking the place of someone with more profound/emotional reasons for being there.

I decided that I enjoyed doing those panning shots so did a few more on my way to Embankment station and another while waiting for a bus at the other end of the journey. Check out the busker singing Sweet Caroline.

StammerheadEnjoying the videos. Thanks for the info about the tents and for your generous leaving a space for someone else. If I were there, that would be me.

Stammerhead Do the people wandering about seem to be locals or are they mostly tourists ? It’s a mixture. We’re an international city so there are many immigrants and people from abroad currently living/working here but it’s a weekday afternoon and most employed people would be working. From the look of it most of the people in yellow jackets have been given short term employment as trying to ask them questions didn’t get good results.

When I was young George VI coins still turned up occasionally in my change right up until decimalisation (1971).

"JUST" ? when it comes to replacing a skinny little "I" with a far-reaching "X" and having to remove all that gold stitchery and move the "R" to make room for the "X" ! Not as easy in fact as it seems in theory !
