Yesterday I re-watched Thor: The Dark World. And I really watched. And I felt that this movie is getting undeserved hate.
Its actually a good story about two brothers who have had their problems and now have to work together to get revenge on the murderer of their mom while their dad is not himself either being grievestruck and therefor being non supportive to his sons.
Its a familydrama filled with beautiful shots (Frigga's funeral is fucking amazing).
I could do without Darcy and Ian because their presence is nothing but comical relief (and not very funny). There is also no need for them because there is plenty of subtle humour to be found (Who's Richard) in this movie.
Overall I really enjoyed watching this film again and it may not be the best MCU movie its still much better than a lot of other CBM's.
There I said it: I like Thor: The Dark World

You don't have to apologize for that, it's an awesome fucking movie with tons of great moments. Stand up, be proud of enjoying it, and don't let a few goofballs who want to pretend it's some terrible film dictate the narrative.

Yes it is. And I always listen to what people have to say but they will never dictate me. I saw TDW for the first time on a small airplane screen when I was flying to Kuala Lumpur. All my other views I have done at home. The first time I didnt like it that much. I still bought the DVD since I want to keep my collection complete. I have watched the MCU chronologically two times now and Im on my third time doing so after obtaining Doctor Strange. I try to do this once a year. The last two times The Dark World came up I put it on and while it was playing I had a tendency to play my phone and do other stuff. It was my filler to get to TWS. This time however I decided to really watch it and it struck how good it actually is. I regret not giving this movie the credit it deserves on earlier viewings. I recommend everyone to re-watch this one and really watch it. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I'm a Thor & Cap fangirl, but I lean hard Thor.
Thor doesn't get a lot of love in the MCU because ranking 1-whatever we're up to Thor just isn't a fan boy favorite.
The first was a wonderful tale of redemption. A young man becoming an adult. He thinks this stuff matters, but it doesn't. He thinks the old man is behind the times while he wants to make his own name, grab all his own glory.
He discovers he is wrong.
A common complaint is he learns too fast, but that is not true. As Odin says when he banishes Thor-Thor, in seeking to make his name, has forgotten everything Odin taught him about humility & the warrior way.
All Thor needs is to remember that lesson, accept he doesn't know everything, that what he thought was important wasn't.
Throughout the first movie & Avengers Thor has been the one who has been in Loki's court, believed in his brother, but Loki discards that in his jealousy & anger.
TDW is wonderful.
Thor has accepted Loki is beyond redemption, though he wishes otherwise. Loki realizes Thor is the one relationship he shouldn't have discarded so quickly. His own anger has gotten him in the place he is in-a prisoner.
And the Odin in this one is the Odin I remember from the comics-unreasonable, angry.
Even Malekith is pretty good. He wanted his world to take over the universe, but was stopped. He still wants his world to take over the world of light.
How hard is it to understand conquest?

There's good stuff in it that I liked and while it's bad by MCU standards, it's serviceable.

Is this one of those threads where you're not allowed to say anything negative? Because... Thor The Dark World... Ah, screw it. I'll show myself out.

it maybe sounds worse than i intend when i say it's probably the worst MCU film. i don't think they've made a bad movie yet.

I did enjoy elements of it, specifically Loki and the climactic battle... But it ultimately lacked all of the wit, energy and charisma that Thor 3 appears to have in abundance. Maybe I should try a rewatch though. I've only seen it once.

That doesnt mean that this is all of a sudden the best movie ever or even in the MCU but its much better than I thought it was.

I actually liked Iron Man 3. I found the Mandarin Twist hilarious right away. But Im not a comic book reader. I dont care about Marvel comic books(or DC comics for that matter). I can understand why people who do love comics dont like that twist. My critique on IM3 is that there is little Iron Man in it (as in IM2) except for the ending with the Iron Legion where there was a bit too much. But overall I also really enjoyed IM3.

I will agree Thor 2 is slightly underrated. The arc of Thors expected royalty that he doesn't desire and Lokis betrayal of family is good material to mould a story out of. Throw in the death of Frigga as a catalyst to unite the demi-god brothers against the bigger threat and you have a script that writes itself. Unfortunately, the film's brought down by the goofiness and embarrassing antics from Darcy and Dr Selvig together with the bland performance of Natalie Portman. They mess the movies tone too much. And obviously the villain doesn't get much depth but thats to be expected in a MCU instalment.
One more positive is that the score is one of the best from any Marvel film.

He feels the universe as it stands has destroyed his rightful universe. It's almost like a native American story in space. I don't know why he would need any more depth for it not to be something that it worth bringing up.

I don't know anything about him in the comics so wanted to learn more why he wants to cover the universe in darkness again. Still he was better than most other MCU villains given that theh didnt camp him up as a joke.

The funny thing about the Mandarin twist was that the trailers really sold him as a great villain. I actually didn't care at all about him being in the series one way or another as I actually had major doubts that he could ever work on screen... But then Marvel really sold us Ben Kingsley as a really threatening, well acted villain. I never would've been upset with the twist in the first place had they not advertised him that way. I mean, the trailers literally had half a dozen Kingsley lines that weren't in the movie. It was like "Hey, want a piece of cake?" "No thanks, I don't really like cake." "It's made with real cocoa and organic butter. Best frosting ever!" "Actually, that sounds great. Gimme!" "Sorry! There is no cake. Only pie."And I don't dislike pie. Just don't get hyped on cake before offering it. On a second watch through I was able to accept the twist just fine. What still bothers me about it is how removed Tony is from the story. Instead being a proactive protagonist he's out in Alabama hanging out with some random kid.

Instead being a proactive protagonist he's out in Alabama hanging out with some random kid. Iron man 3 had that thing where at first viewing i thought I want more Iron Man! Gimme Iron Man and what i got was Tony Stark. screw that. I want him in the armor not fighting guys without the armor or remotely controlling the armor, or another guy inside the armor or gal, for that matter. I WANT Tony Stark inside the freaking Armor kicking serious butt. What i got wasn't that... So i felt cheated (i didn't care for mandarin so didn't bother the twist). Then something happened, iron man, iron man everywhere. Now Iron Man 3 is, in my opinion, very good to great, in the grand scheme of things. I always loved TDW so i will not go into that.

It's where they are most comfortable living. I don't think there is any other explanation needed really. But I don't know what villains you think were camped up as a joke. All of the MCU villains are great in my opinion. I love them all.
But I actually love the Darcy moments, even during the final fight, and especially when the hammer comes flying by.

Mew-Mew is one of my favorite jokes in TDW, as it comes from Thor. I think the main gripe people have is that thing they did that science is Magic in Asgard and incorporated a lot of Sci-Fi elements in the design of the wepons, vehicles ETC instead of Medieval Fantastic. As in the comics they really are GODS, here, Odin says we are not gods we live we fuck we die (i know he didnt say fuck but i don't remember the line) just like humans and loki responds give or take 5000 years. In the comics they really are the gods of the north not some alien dudes that were mistaken by gods by the vikings. This was made i think for overly christian people to swallow the pill that a major hollywood movie has a pagan GOD being the hero that does not give two shits to christ and all that equally unbeliavable mythos. Actually i would like to see Marvel adding the MIGHTY CHRIST in the avengers fighting forces of evil. His greatest weapon being the other cheek move. Whenever someone slaps him he unleashes THE OTHER CHEEK and banishes them to HELL! Oh and his father could try to take on Galactus or some Celestial dude. Not to mension the throwing crown of thorns, that would do some damage. Better yet put him on DC and let him fight Supes. I would pay for that.

Although I have no interest to catering to religious fantasies, I do actually like the, their aliens angle. I think it plays better on screen.
