Hmmm...falls on a Monday this year. I have been out Monday nights for the fall for....just over 20 years now (bowling). I may have to stay home that night - solely because my father has mobility issues. I've got time to work on that. I have my costume already. I'll pick up a box of something - likely a couple of weeks before the big day. Joker's Wilde

I never get trick or treaters. The kids who live in the apartment complex where I do don't even bother to go around trick or treating.

Haven't had trick or treaters show up in almost 20 years and I live in a pretty heavily populated suburban area now. Used to get way more TOTer's back when the town had only a third of the housing it does now, probably because kids had to actually get out and work for the candy and with a smaller population, every house counts.
I noticed the amount of kids going around started to steadily decline back when 911 happened. People complained about COVID ruining Halloween 2020, but honestly, you wouldn't have noticed a difference around these parts as fewer and fewer houses decorated for Halloween each year anyway.
If you want to experience heavy Trick Or Treater traffic, you have to go hang out in a gentrified area and you will see lots of parents taking the kids out, combined with a bunch of drinking assholes leaving beer bottles all over the sidewalks.

Living in a condo so no trick-or-treaters this year. There are people with kids in our building but I don't remember them coming to knock on our door last year. I think I will just hang around and watch a horror movie or two.

It's over 80 degrees again here in NJ. I'm not in the mood. Maybe it will feel like fall by mid-October. Hopefully, it won't be snowing by then. (Halloween had to be postponed some years back because of an ice storm.)

(Halloween had to be postponed some years back because of an ice storm.) Halloween 2012. Hurricane Sandy all but wiped out any Halloween spirit as most still didn't have power in this area, then the Ice Storm of 2012 hit like a week after Sandy so there was a 2 week stretch where we only had power for about 3 days.
Edit: Now that I think about it, the Ice Storm knocked out power at my house for a longer stretch and did more property damage than Sandy did.

I remember that there was a nor'easter and ice storm in 2011 in NJ, and it knocked down so many tree branches and power lines that Halloween was postponed for a week. I recall thinking, "Halloween postponed? That won't happen again any time soon." And then Sandy came along the following year.

We don't get a lot of trick-or-treaters anymore, strangely enough they will all flock to the other side of the street where the teachers live, and then just keep on going and never even bother crossing over to this side of the street. But every year we buy a lot of candy because we remember when the weather was good and we'd get almost 100 trick-or-treaters. Trunk or treat really seems to have killed it, that's when it really started going down.
I make most of my costumes because nothing good is on the rack in the stores in my size, too many women costumes are just slutty and the men's costumes are boring. This year I finally found a good witch costume with an orange skirt and a spiderweb bodice and glittery black sleeves, perfect fit.

I remember Sandy. My oldest daughter was married in Florida on the Saturday. Everyone was watching Sandy to see if it would come inland but it headed north. We thought we were in the clear. Nope My daughter was flying to NY then to Europe for her honeymoon Flights were canceled and rerouted. Her honeymoon was delayed 2 days. My other daughter , husband and I flew out on the next Tuesday to California without problem. Her 10 year anniversary is this year. Must be Sandy's 10 year, too Thanks for helping me remember!!

We usually get a lot of trick-or-treaters—we even got them in 2020!
But as for Halloween, yeah, I’m ready for it. It’s been a tough few weeks life- and work-wise, so some faux-spookiness may be a nice distraction. I’d particularly love to do a haunted house again (unfortunately, a favorite haunt in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., is still closed).

Only thing I do to get ready is buy candy a few days before Halloween. I enjoy passing it out to the kids.

By the way, here’s a little-known Harold Arlen song about Halloween (the lyric, by Ralph Blane, spoofs Irving Berlin). Far from Arlen’s best (he’s one of my favorite song composers), but definitely fun:

I'm ready for the October Challenge on this forum; watching 31 horror movies in 31 days during October. Last year was the first time in 8 years I participated in the Challenge. After doing it for years on imdb, I had to take a break and let the movies catch up.
