In other words it would have to be an album that was released between 1990 and 1996. Because after 1996 rock music was pretty much finished.
What is your favorite rock album from this time period? In other words what is the last great rock album ever made?
Some people I assume, would say there's good rock made after that, but let's skip that and let's focus on a time when the last time actual good music was made.
I'm saying, don't worry about the time when music got complicated which is between 1997 and 2022. Those aren't actually good years for music.

Then I would say that the premise of this thread is fundamentally flawed. My music library has 97 albums released between 1978 and 1996, and 218 albums released between 1997 and 2022. And that doesn't include the 2016 release I ordered recently and is en route to me as I write this.

The self-titled debut by Poets & Pornstars (2007) is a great, and varied, rock album. It's got hard rockers like "Rock and Roll" and "Get Your Kicks". It's got a laid-back track with "In the Dark". It ends with the ballad "Earthman" (and the hidden hard rocker "Son of a Gun"). I still remember an Amazon user review reading, "I defy you to get this music out of your head." Another departure from my norm is The Masquerade Ball (2000) by Axel Rudi Pell. Although Pell is classified as "Heavy/Power Metal, Hard Rock" on The Metal Archives, this is quite a varied album with different sounds and tempos, ballads and rockers.

People say that pavement is the best band of the 90's. However I don't think their albums are qualify as the last good one. I hate to say it I'm going with superunknown as the last good album. Technically nirvana might be better, but I don't like them.

That was my thought. Good music died when Cobain stuck the shotgun barrel in his mouth. Th-th-th that's all folks

I’m curious to know your opinion on this band: I like it! Very intense, the guy's voice is easy to take, and the middle instrumental part is solid.

Probably one that came out this week or last week, it never ends. There's always great music produced, just have to search it out. From the more mainstream, the new Editors album is pretty "great".

Maybe, but there's also the possibility that that band could have made more good music had he not died.
Then again it isn't very likely, I mean all the other seatle grundge bands other than them didn't make good music after 1994 either. It was all pretty much Ok at best.

If we're limiting ourselves to just "good" rock album, I'd say you don't have to look much further than earlier this spring with Black Keys Dropout Boogie. It was a perfectly good collection of crowd pleasing fusion rock songs. If we want great, I'd refer to the same band but ten years back with their real break out album El Camino. That was essentially the last rock album that made a dent in the mainstream pop machine. If you discount that band as a White Stripes wannabe, I'd then refer you back to Queens of the Stone Age's Songs For The Deaf in 2002. If that's not good enough I'd send you back to Ok Computer, then Melon Collie, and if those aren't adequate either just stick to your precious Nirvana.
