Sure, I'll take some apples - what kind? Sounds like fun, I always wanted to do that but none of my friends or my husband were ever interested. I also always wanted to go to a pumpkin farm. I love to look at pumpkins.

Finally made one of these this year .... with refinements on the ideas in the original Mother Earth News Magazine and the one these "kids" made ... gallons of juice in the freezer and some in jars in the pantry. Worst part was cleaning the machine after making the juice.. something not mentioned in the article OR the video.
Before anyone asks .... it is a juicer ONLY ...NOT used for clothes washing !

Lucky you. You can keep the corn.

Sounds like fun! My favorite was always a crisp Jonathan apple, but now I get Galas unless it's this time of year when the Jonathan's are fresh! They seem to get mealy after they've been stored. Have fun!
I've bought two 3lb. bags of Jonathan's the past few weeks for $3.99 each. One for me and one for the chickens. The chickens LOVE apples!

Where do you find the Jonathans? They never carry them at the stores here. I grew up at eating Jonathans.

I've been getting the Jonathan's at our local Sunfresh grocery store. They usually only carry them this time of year. To me, it's an apple that you need to eat when they're first picked or not stored for long periods of time. They are crisp when they're new, but get mealy after they're stored. We have several orchards in Missouri that grow them. These only say Product of the USA on the bag, so don't know where they actually come from.

MacIntosh, Jersey Macs, Cortlands, Yellow Transparent, Melba, Dolgo Crab, Wealthy, Duchess, three late fall apples that came with an order from the nursey but were never identified and several kinds of "wild" apples. Twenty seven trees not counting the wilds.
The yellow sweet and red sour cherry trees succumbed to age, deer and fire blight. Peaches and apricots died due to a combination of insufficient global warming and deer / mouse winter damage.

They are great fresh. These Granny Smiths are tiny compared to the ones I see in a grocery store. Not sour either.
