From your definitions I am a Theist and and agnostic, I picked theist to shore up our numbers against you godless heathens I suspected that you would!

Apathiest - Not interested in knowing whether god exists or not. Not identifying as atheists because of strong relations of atheists with liberals/leftists (communities I detest). Otherwise technically an atheist because of lack of belief in god. Hi, AJ, it's good to hear from you again! Hope you a doing well! All good here Rachel. Getting a bit more time away from work since last few weeks and hope it continues even in future. I hope all's good at your end.

My vocabulary is expanded today. "Apatheist". I've never run across this word until you laid it before me. Thank you. So naturally, I had to look up some definitions and commentaries on apatheism. One thing that interests me is that while you can certainly be (like you) atheist and apatheist, one can also be theist and apatheist. Some deists fit the bill. Among the commentaries, here's one by a zealous Christian that might amuse you: www.breakpoint.org/breakpoint-beware-of-apatheism/I have been aware of AJ's apatheism for some time, but outside of this forum, I had never heard it. The link to the commentaries amused me, for sure! I would lean towards apatheism if it wasn't for Theists trying to make their religious laws into the government's laws. In a country that truly guarantees freedom of religion, I could happily sit back and let others believe whatever they like, if they left me alone. But most Theists must proselytize. I doubt they would like it if us non-believers started proselytizing in the streets and on doorsteps with pamphlets trying to convince them to be atheists. We would probably be drawn and quartered for that. I would make a distinction between apathy about the question of the existence of God vs. apathy about religion. Because religion (then and now) exerts such a powerful influence on society, one can vigorously be a part of that debate and still be an apatheist. With proselytizing, I have no objection. At least, no more than any door-to-door salesman like window installers or exterminators. As a matter of fact, only a couple of weeks ago JWs came to my door and I put to them the dilemma of simultaneously claiming that God will execute children for the fault of their parents (at Armageddon) while also claiming that God is just. They maintained their smiles, but naturally could not resolve that.

Hey, you are the guy with a sword! Oh yeah, although in my advanced dotage I am thinking of making it into a plough. Ploughs are good. Farmers use them to grow food. We need food! So, given the poll numbers at this point, I am thinking the three theists are you, clusium and kls. Whatever happened to Cody? He was a hard-core Christian. Did he just give up on us godless heathens?

Hmmm, maybe your god with the tm after it confused them. But regardless, you are a theist. I wish we had a broader spectrum of theists here. A Hindu or Buddhist would be a welcome addition. It always seems to end up that the atheists/agnostics are arguing with just the Christians. And I think the only Jew here is the one who lives in Israel and gets really wound up, given the unrest there. And I can't imagine having a Muslim on this board. Some posters admit to being spiritual, and since that is a very individual thing - no spiritualist handbook - it is kind of difficult to discuss. This board has changed a lot since its beginning.

Technically I am Hermetic, which I have always categorised as a branch of Christianity, but really it's just that I am a Christian hermetic

Lapsed pagan theist here. It's been almost 7 years since I decided to take a break from my spiritual path. Most people walk away from their faith because they stopped believing, but I walked away because I was so overwhelmed by spiritual experiences that I felt like my head was going to explode. Life can get awfully strange if you have a bit of talent and decide to go exploring. My spirituality these days has been relegated to a simple way of life, which is fine, but I don't dive deep into primal ecstasy the way I used to. It's more about finding a balance, where spirituality enhances and enriches life, without going too far and drowning in woo. I appreciate the normalcy.

I find myself hard to categorise (not criticising the options in the poll, I suspect I'm just a bit of a weirdo). I have a firm idea of what God should be like. I even have a particular conception of God that I'm particularly drawn to and thinking about this conception of God, I find personally uplifting.
But in terms of actual belief, I suppose I'd be more an agnostic - sometimes it feels like there is something more out there, but that may be no more than a feeling at the end of the day, one that could be explained in wholly naturalistic terms. I like the idea of God but have no real faith in it.
And then if you look at how I act, I'm essentially an atheist. I'm drawn on an intellectual and emotional level to theism, but I don't pray, I don't meditate, I don't go to services and I don't act as if I expect to experience any sort of afterlife when I die. So really, despite all my metaphysical musings, is my attitude to God any different to that of, say, Richard Dawkins?

So, at this time on October 27, 2022, we have
6 theists and
16 agnostic/atheists and
2 "others".

I'm a believer in a higher power. I attended a Catholic school, and hated it. I've turned my back on religion a number of times but always came back.

Bottom right, but very close to top right. Coordinates (10, -0.5) on a -10 to 10 grid.
