en politicised. When the much-awaited Brazil 2022 World Cup shirt was released in August, student João Vitor Gonçalves de Oliveira rushed to get his hands on the kit. The 20-year-old went to the nearest store, grabbed the famous yellow and green top and took it to the till, where he was met with an excited smile. "The shop owner assumed I support the current government because I was buying the shirt, and started to rage against left-wing candidate Lula," João tells the BBC. João does not support the government of Jair Bolsonaro, who is standing for re-election on Sunday. But buying the shirt, he realised in the store, could make people think he did. In order to avoid confrontation, João pretended to be a Bolsonaro supporter. It was another sign that the yellow and green shirt - made famous by Pele, Ronaldo, and many others - has become a symbol of a divided nation.… That surprises me. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62887765I hear that turdwipe Neymar was bigging up Bolsonaro on social media the other day.

Really? Is this widespread or is it an anomalous anecdote? I know some claim that if you buy the Australian flag that you are supporter of colonisation and should be treated like some hick in Texas with the Confederate Flag adorning their car bonnet. This is not a statistically significant opinion.

It is pretty much true, unfortunately. Bolsonaro managed to hijack the national colours for his cause. In all big electoral events all his supporters wear yellow, more often than not in the form of the “seleção” shirt. People who oppose him wouldn’t wear it today, although hopefully that will change when the World Cup comes around.

Results are in and a second round will be needed to decide between the red and the yellow teams. Lula called the runoff election "overtime", while Bolsonaro called it "the second half".

Do you see Lula as the lesser of two evils or will you be happy to vote for him? I didn't have to hold my nose before voting for Lula but I would have preferred a different party if there had been one in a position to prevent Bolsonaro's re-election.

Shocking down there. No surprise about that scumbag Neymar. It's as bad as what Trump did with the flag in the States. All eyes on how bad it gets in Italy now.
