Fucking hell Mets, what are you doing at the plate? All season long, you’ve worked great ABs, worked pitchers relentlessly and put the ball in play. Now you’re swinging for the fences and look totally lost. Great two games by the Braves, but I wish the Mets offense would show up and make these games competitive because right now, they aren’t. If the Mets lose tonight, it would just the same old Mets tune. Game 1, why would they have a debuting rookie hit in that big spot in the 9th inning? Are there no other more experienced hitters with Jansen struggling? I had a bad feeling when he came up to bat with the bases loaded. Yeah, I didn't know why Vogelbach wasn't up for him in that spot, but honestly, the DH spot and their bench overall have been pretty brutal the past few months. Vogelbach was great the first few weeks since coming over, but both he and Ruf have been useless of late. May as well try to catch lightning in a bottle with Alvarez. I guess. It's easy to play Monday Morning QB, but their offense just isn't good right now. I was hoping that the notion of a huge, playoff-esque series would kickstart them because it had so often this season, but not this time. A win tonight will make me feel a lot better.....

Is baseball the worst sport to play out the string? I saw some Twins-Tigers highlights, and it made me sad. An absolute meaningless game like this one has to be a chore. A team that was out of playoff contention in July can still getup for a game against a contender (unless you are the Boston Red Sox) just to piss on someone's barbeque. But two eliminated teams playing each other, yawn. I'm sure players have individual goals, "If I can get x amount of hits in the last six game, I can get my average up to .xxx.". but there had to be a voice saying "It would make things go a lot quicker to strike out on three straight."
I was watching the A's-Mariners game a few days ago and it looked like there was 47 people in the stands. That must be fun. One of the things MLB has to do in the offseason is fix this mess in Oakland. Set a deadline "If ground isn't broken on a new stadium by a certain date, then it's Viva Las Vegas for the Athletics" or something to that effect. Enough is enough As good as the A's has been keeping the team in contention every year, they forgot how to define a team identity, no face of the team. Once their rising stars reach end of contract, they let them go. Sports is still a performance art, and the team needs a star the fan can identify. Who is on the team beloved by the A's fans wanted to see? As bad as the Angels is, they have Ohtani and Trout to draw fans.

Yes, I was thinking Vogelbach when Alvarez came to plate. Then I realize Vogelbach was on deck. Ruf has been unwatchable. You hit it on the nail that the team missed Marte sorely.

Who is on the team beloved by the A's fans wanted to see? As bad as the Angels is, they have Ohtani and Trout to draw fans. I had a business associate who was a huge A's fan and live in the Bay Area. He went to a ton of games. And always told me what a lousy experience it was. He said flat out that the Coliseum is a toilet. The place stinks, literally. Even the best seats are light years away from the action. The concessions, the restrooms and the staff all suck. And he said that 90% of A's fans were in agreement. There was only so many times you could go there and cover your disgust. Especially when the Giants play in a palace. Would the fans support a team that didn't play in a concrete outhouse, certainly. For a few years. Maybe to give the bank accounts enough wiggle room to keep the players. In all probability they should move. The TV rights blow and can't get any better. The Bay seems to belong to the Giants now and Las Vegas, Portland or San Antonio would be a greener pasture. But the A's fans are great. When there's more that 15 people in attendance it has a European football vibe. That's cool and few North American venues in any sport can say that. Be a shame for them to lose their team.
I'm wondering if Angels fans would rather see Trout and Ohtani or playoff games? They wasted Pujols tenure there, are wasting Trout's tenure and look to be hell bent on wasting Ohtani's tenure. Arte Moreno (who was supposed to be a big spender) is looking to sell the Halos. Maybe things will get better. But the Angels are rapidly becoming the St. Louis Browns or Chicago Cardinals of baseball. The ugly stepsister to the pretty girl across town.

As someone who has been in that coliseum half a dozen times, mostly for concerts, I can confirm everything you have heard. The place is a total dump. When the Raiders were still there, that place doubled as both one of the worst football and baseball venues in professional sports, easily. It's funny because right next to it is the arena the warriors, up until recently, used to play. To have one shitty sports venue right next to a pretty good one(after its renovation at least)is interesting. I don't know how often that happens in the sports landscape. Now, if the A's go, that whole lot is going to be a ghost town. Cue that Specials song....

That is very interesting. With all the praise of player management of Vice President Billy Beane, doesn't sound like the A's are managing all that dandy in every other aspect of the team.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think that Beane must be fairly decent at his job. The Athletics, with the disadvantages the team has, should be a 100+ loss team every year. Shitty stadium, pathetic income from TV, second fiddle to the Giants. They do develop players and make the playoff somewhat regularly. Six trips to the postseason since 2012. Yeah, he dumps players too soon at times but I'm sure he doesn't want them to do a Jason Giambi.

People may have forgotten that Josh Donaldson and Yoenis Céspedes were originally the A's in the same team. Countless great players they have released over the last 2 decades. I give them credit to come up with these rising stars and kept making the playoff. They have to find a way to keep them.

Not just those guys, you can pour over the rosters for the past two decades and find a ton of guys who were solid and went on to have great careers elsewhere. It’s remarkable how good their scouting and development programs are.

And Babe Ruth no longer sits alone in the second spot for all-time Runs Batted In.
Also, 702 Homeruns! Miguel Cabrera, second in active HR, needs 195 to tie.
