The Showdown. 1950 ☑️ Two directors ☑️ A Western ☑️
Otherwise, no idea. This will be an interesting answer and explanation.

Both directors are multiple-Oscar nominated and Oscar winners. One was a Best Director winner in the past, but did not direct this film.
The other did direct this film, but did not win his Oscar for directing.
There, that makes it so much simpler, doesn't it?

Correct! (Whew). In 1985, this movie was broadcast to the isolated Spanish town of Plan, a community with its own dialect and an allegedly "enchanted" lake. At the time, the town included over 40 single men and one single woman. After seeing the movie, some of the village's bachelors decided to place an ad in the local papers advertising for "women between 20 and 40 with marriage intentions." A "caravan of women" traveled to the village in response to the ad, resulting in over 30 marriages and repopulating the dwindling village to a few hundred citizens. Other villages followed suit. Frank Capra wrote the story and wanted to direct it with Gary Cooper as the star, but the studio expressed little interest. He sold the story to William Wellman, who directed it with Robert Taylor in the lead.

Oh, that one! I always thought that was a 60s film so didn't pipe up about it. But really, well done Isapop, with a real brute of a 'quickie'.

Of course, I'd never even heard of the film really (!) I posted the question in part because I wanted more people to hear of this film. I don't generally like Westerns, but this one is an exception. It's got more than the usual Western premise--a bunch of guys strutting around having gunfights. It has a more female-centered viewpoint than most Westerns, a lot of heart-wrenching drama, and a touch of comedy. All that and a cute little dog, too.
