William Shatner's got a new outlook on life after boldly going into outer space last year — and now, he hopes to launch a truce with Star Trek castmate George Takei, RadarOnline.com has learned. The sci-fi legends have bickered with each other for decades — but Shatner, 91, is eager to make peace with Takei, 85, while they still can, tipsters snitched.
"Bill has been reaching out to try and mend fences," spilled an insider. "He doesn't want the bad blood anymore, and word is George is open to it. Bill's the first to admit he's been stubborn, big-headed, and ego-driven. It's taken years, but Bill's come a long way — and better late than never."
Star Trek's Nichelle Nichols died of natural causes in July at the age of 89 while fellow franchise icon Leonard Nimoy, 83, succumbed to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in 2015 — without ever responding to Shatner's calls and texts.
"Bill was devastated when Leonard died. He never did get a chance to say goodbye," confided the source. "And he was so sad over Nichelle's passing. He'll always remember her as a great lady."
According to the mole, Shatner "seems to be getting a little lonely," and "everyone would like to see Bill and George be on friendly terms."
Shatner's epiphany comes just one week after he revealed he felt profound grief after launching into space, detailing his experience in his memoir, Boldly Go.
"I was crying," the actor told NPR. "I didn't know what I was crying about. I had to go off some place and sit down and think, what's the matter with me? And I realized I was in grief."

I hope that Shatner and Takei can bury the hatchet. I doubt they'll become best friends, but there's no reason they can't be civil to each other. IMO, life is too short for them to perpetuate this feud.

IMO, life is too short for them to perpetuate this feud. I agree......but that would (obviously) require MUCH more of Takei than Shatner. I still find it amusing how taken aback Shatner was when he started work on one of his memoirs (might have been " Star Trek Memories" (1993)), only to be repeatedly confronted by his fellow castmates when interviewing them for information to be used in his book, when they would tell him just what a jag he had been on the set most of the time they had been around him in the past. He made light of it during his time on the talk show circuit to promote the book, but the fact that (apparently) he was truly surprised to find out how many of those he had worked with didn't just dislike him, but that they actually DESPISED him just HAD to be disturbing to his psyche. Sad though to learn that the one guy that (supposedly) was his "closest" friend from those days (Nimoy) seemed to also be dodging his calls toward the end of his life.... It's one thing to recognize that you have a problem in how you interact with others, but another thing altogether to actively then start working on making changes to try and improve yourself in that area.....something I'd be SHOCKED to learn Shatner ever seriously tried to improve in himself....... SAVE FERRIS

Yeah, I thought Takei's comments about Shatner's trip into space last year were not a good look for him, and smacked of petty jealousy. You may recall he said: Takei could have said something gracious like, "Congratulations to the captain of the Enterprise on his trip to the final frontier. The captain of Excelsior is standing by to boldly go where he has gone before." Even if Takei was insincere, it would have been a better look for him, and he might have scored his own free trip into space courtesy of Blue Origin or Space X. Instead he looked like, in Rolling Stone's words, a "grumpy old spaceman".

As long as that's all he wants to do with George Takei.

It can be lonely sitting in the Captain's chair. Hopefully they can mend that fence while there's still time.
