It won't. Too much negativity as it is.

no, not when you limit who can see it. that alone will have hurt it.
plus, there seems to be this segment of the fan base that seems determined to dislike it. this is a franchise whose fans are extremely fickle, divided, and honestly outright negative times. they were putting it down before the trailer was even released.

I agree...
I have a poor internet connection and can't watch TV shows online. I also know many people who are not computer savvy and would not watch them that way even if they could.
In this day and age, even when shows are on TV and are accessible by post people, they come and go as fast as having a cold.
As long as Star Trek Discovery remains an internet only product, it will not reach the kind of viewership that the other Star Trek shows did... If it last just two years, I will be surprised.
Perhaps if it finds it's way onto DVD/Blu-Ray it might find a larger audience, but I think CBS has doomed the series from the start.
While some younger viewers may enjoy online shows, the world is not yet ready for internet only shows... especially popular franchise shows like Star Trek.

I don't follow that the world isn't ready for internet only shows, that's Netflix's whole business model and they're thriving - so I think there's enough of an audience streaming shows now to make the show a success and I tend to think Star Trek has remained a niche thing over the decades which could suit an on-line platform better than the old broadcast model.

I would vote "Likely no" if that was a poll option. I think its very unlikely this show will succeed, but never say never.

It has a built-in audience so yes but how successful depends on whether it's total shit or not.

I hope it is a success becasue that will be good for Trek. I'm not too happy about it being an online series because some of us have Hooterville internet instead of something nice. All in all, I've been less than thrilled with the new movies but always hope the next one will be better.

Not likely. Too many people that are already paying for cable and netflix and amazon and who knows what else are not going to pay to watch a CBS show on streaming.

That's me. I knew this show would suck balls well before the trailer dropped - I knew it from the production decisions that were being made, starting with the design of the lead ship of the show, the USS Fugly. The trailers have done nothing but confirm my opinion. I suspect it may be considered successful - the Netflix deal has already covered most of the production costs, so CBS probably already thinks of it as a successful show. But I badly, badly hope it absolutely crashes and burns. My greatest hope for this show is that it's cancelled mid-season and they never air the rest of the episodes.

One's interest in and enjoyment of a television program is inherently subjective. But my judgment of the show has been entirely based on what I have seen of it - the design of the Fugly, which sucks balls, the production design in general, which sucks balls, the trailers, which... well, you get the idea. So in that sense it is an objective judgment, since it is based in the facts as they have been revealed to us so far.

Do you not see the part where I said my initial judgement was based on the design of the ship? I.e. material put out by the producers? Not sure what the complaint is here...

since the time I first posted i have found out out something that may put a wrench in the works of this poll.I don't know how many know this already but due to their lack of desire to hold to prime's timeline it has now become its own universe so no danger of screwing up the works on the timeline as we know it unlike what enterprise did what a mess that was.

Anybody who claims that Discovery is trying to fit in with other Star Trek shows is lying through their teeth.

Maybe now you'll realize why many of us boycotted that garbage, and those who didn't now regret having sat thru that pile of dung for 12 episodes, hoping in vain that it would get better?
