Intolerable Cruelty - My least favorite Coen Brothers movie, but I still mostly enjoyed it. 6.5/10 The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes - Hasn't stayed with me much at all, as I barely remember it. Probably the only Wilder movie I don't like. 5.5/10 Carrie - A classic. 8/10 Avanti! - Due for a rewatch, but I quite enjoyed it. 7.5/10 First Time Viewings: Daisies (1966, Vera Chytilóva) - 7.5/10Decision to Leave (2022, Park Chan-wook) - 8/10Black Girl (1966, Ousmane Sembene) - 7/10Joint Security Area (2000, Park Chan-wook) - 8/10Dual (2022, Riley Stearns) - 7.5/10Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022, Guillermo del Toro & Gustafson) - 7/10Late Spring (1949, Yasujirô Ozu) - 8/10Repeat Viewings: In Bruges (2008, Martin McDonagh) - 9.5/10The Great Silence (1968, Sergio Corbucci) - 8/10Come and See (1985, Elem Klimov) - 9.5/10Bicycle Thieves (1948, Vittorio De Sica) - 8/10It Happened One Night (1934, Frank Capra) - 9/10The Abyss (1989, James Cameron) - 8.5/10The Battle of Algiers (1966, Gillo Pontecorvo) - 8/10TV Viewings: Star Wars: Rebels - Season 1 (2014-2015) - 7/10Star Wars: Rebels - Season 2 (2015-2016) - 7/10Movie Awards: BEST FILM: In BrugesBEST ACTOR: Colin Farrell - In BrugesBEST ACTRESS: Claudette Colbert - It Happened One NightBEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Ralph Fiennes - In BrugesBEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Tang Wei - Decision to LeaveBEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Aleksei Rodionov - Come and SeeBEST SCORE: Ennio Morricone & Gillo Pontecorvo - The Battle of AlgiersBEST SCRIPT: Martin McDonagh - In BrugesBEST DIRECTOR: Elem Klimov - Come and SeeDaisies (1966, Vera Chytilóva) - Watched this last month and was pleasantly surprised by it. Enjoyable chaos, 8/10
Joint Security Area (2000, Park Chan-wook) - Good, but not my favorite from Park. 7/10
Late Spring (1949, Yasujirô Ozu) - Ozu is one of my favorite Japanese directors. Some of his films are repetitive but he does wonders with capturing family dynamics. 8/10
In Bruges (2008, Martin McDonagh) - Wonderful film. Very funny, but deeper than I initially expected. 9/10
Bicycle Thieves (1948, Vittorio De Sica) - One of two De Sica films I've seen. Very good though not exactly one I want to revisit often. 8/10
The Abyss (1989, James Cameron) - I'm in the minority in that I'm just not much of a James Cameron fan. This is not on his better film list for me. 5/10

First Time Viewing Carnival Of Souls (1962; Herk Harvey) - This classic is said to have inspired the films of George A. Romero and M. Night Shyamalan, but its historical importance aside I found it rather dull and predictable. 5/10 TV Narcos: Mexico - Season 1 (2018) - Not as good as the original series (I miss Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar, although he does have a short cameo), but still gripping TV. 7.5/10 Mare Of Easttown (2021) - Kate Winslet is unsurpringly convincing as a "difficult" cop in this mini-series, and there is some decent support from the likes of Guy Pearce and Angourie Rice, but just like in Sharp Objects the crime plot is secondary to the character drama and ultimately just not that original or exciting. 5/10 Repeat Viewing Nothing this week Carnival Of Souls (1962; Herk Harvey) - In full agreement. 5/10

The Brothers Grimm (2005) - Been a while since I've seen it, but I found it enjoyable but lesser Gilliam. 6/10
Beverly Hills Cop (1987) - Entertaining, but not great. 7/10
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) - I know a lot of people love this one, and I don't dislike it, but it's probably my least favorite Wes Anderson film. 6/10
Bullet Train (2022) - A surprisingly enjoyable action film. 8/10
The Bad Guys (2022) -One of the better animated films I've seen recently. I love the heist film feel of it. 8/10

Emancipation (2022 Antoine Fuqua) - 7.5/10Armageddon Time (2022 James Gray) - 6.5/10Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022 Guillermo del Toro) - 6/10
Causeway (2022 Lila Neugebauer) - 7/10Decision to Leave (2022 Park Chan-wook) - 8/10
She Said (2022 Maria Schrader) - 8/10 Eternals (2021 Chloé Zhao) - 5/10Metro (1997 Thomas Carter) - 5/10 Terrifier 2 (2022 Damien Leone) - 7/10Film AwardsBEST PICTURE - She Said BEST ACTOR - Will Smith (Emancipation) BEST ACTRESS - Jennifer Lawrence (Causeway) BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Brian Tyree Henry (Causeway) BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Samantha Morton (She Said) BEST DIRECTOR - Maria Schrader (She Said) BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY - Robert Richardson (Emancipation) BEST SCORE - Alexandre Desplat (Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio) Only one of yours I've seen this week is Eternals (which is kind of funny as I still haven't seen a lot of the more popular films from Phase 4). I found it a lesser Marvel film with a lot of ambition. From what I've seen it probably sets up more than any of the other phase 4 films, but for the length of the film, it feels like it should have more actually to it. 6/10 I'd be interested in your thoughts on Terrifier 2. I'm very interested in that one enough to actually pre-order the 4K that apparently is a Best Buy exclusive.

I'm very interested in that one enough to actually pre-order the 4K that apparently is a Best Buy exclusive. I thought the story was alright, but the directing (particularly the action scenes), acting and characterization left a lot to be desired. The one scene I like is the scene where the celestial is explaining the celestial process to one of the eternals. That was an interesting and visually cool scene. The movie overall is one of the worst movies in the MCU imo. Terrifier 2 The first Terrifier is in poor taste, though effectively creepy. It wasn't very heavy on story and isn't a particularly good movie. Terrifier 2 is a big step up in most ways, it just isn't quite as creepy as the first movie. The movie sort of borrows a bit from Halloween in that it is the anniversary of the murders of the first film and Art the Clown is stalking a girl and her brother on Halloween and killing her friends. Besides that though it is definitely it's own movie. This movie is more tongue in cheek than the first movie and throws in a little commentary about the effects of evil in the world. A boy (who is obsessed with Art the Clown) and his sister are both still suffering from the trauma of the death of their father. Left dealing with an impatient, but caring mother. The brother is strange and people suspect he is a serial killer in the making, but the movie takes the opposite route than suspected with his character. The sister and brother discover there is some connection between their father's death and Art the Clown and where it takes this is quite interesting. It is surprisingly engaging on an emotional level. Like many recent horror movies it has an intentionally 1980s atmosphere to it. I also like some of the dark humor. What I don't like is how grotesquely violent the movie is, though I will say it often looks unrealistic so that makes it a bit easier to deal with. Fans of extreme gore will definitely love this movie, as it does have one of the most violent scenes in horror movie history. The scene is so uncomfortable, because it so gratuitous, but also humorous which almost makes it both more disturbing and less disturbing at the same time. Another issue I have is how callous it is with some of the violence, but it avoids being as sleazy as the first movie. The movie is also a bit too long at 2 hrs 18 min and definitely could have edited down the final act, which feels like it goes on forever. Overall this is an interesting, memorable and entertaining sequel.

Hello again! Yours: Intolerable Cruelty (2003, Coen Brothers) I liked it well enough but it is definitely a lesser Coen film. 6/10 The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970, Billy Wilder) Agreed. 4/10 Carrie (1976, Brian De Palma) A wonderful adaptation that's honestly better than the novel. Very good. 8/10 Mine: The Darjeeling Limited (Wes Anderson, 2007) This is one of the few Wes Anderson movies I hadn't seen, so I'm glad to cross it off my list. I personally found it quite funny at times and the sentimentality of this one worked for me for the most part (I also love movies that take place mostly on trains so there's that too) but it's not quite up there with his best. 7/10 Infernal Affairs III (Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, 2003) The final and easily worst of the Infernal Affairs movies. On one hand this feels like a better companion film to the second than the second did to the first (in terms of characters actions matching what we had been shown) but I found myself just not caring part of the way through. It wasn't suspenseful as the first, it didn't have the drama of the second… it was just there. 4/10 Killing (Shin'ya Tsukamoto, 2018) "You'll soon bleed to death, so reflect on your life." I usually love Tsukamoto's films… I can't really say that about this one, though I liked and respected it. This is absolutely devastating deconstruction of the typical Samurai film. It plays so many of the tropes those who watch these films expect and it does so cleverly. It's a film about the act of killing, how it destroys and how it can be so easy for some. Despite the title, there is only one real action scene in it. It's mostly a chamber piece, so small in scale that it honestly comes off almost as a play at times… which is fascinating given how nature is shown throughout. It's quite possibly the most depressing of Tsukamoto's films as well, leaving me not only uncomfortable as it ended, but needing something light hearted to escape it. 7/10 Not watched any of yours.
