Hugo, i just didn't know it was a box office bomb Hugo is a beautiful film imo. And with the backstory it's about early movie history and has a nice message about film preservation. BB ;-)

BB ;-) I don't think you're wrong about it being beautiful, but it's definitely over-stylized. There's a very fine line between trying to make a good film and trying too hard to make a good film. I know, but I think it fits with the " fairy tale" style of the story

Popeye (1980) Hocus Pocus (1993)
They're legitimately favorite childhood films of mine.
Hocus Pocus has since grown a cult following, largely through home video and being a Halloween classic that was aired for years on the Disney Channel and ABC Family in October. It had the misfortune of being released in the middle of summer, which makes no sense at all. It also contains some adult humor that seemed to irk the parental group types. It's now so popular that Bette Midler has dressed as Winifred for Halloween and it's part of her shows.
And I don't even understand why the critics hated Popeye. I didn't know it had such a reputation until coming online because it was always a family favorite. Robin was embarrassed by it mostly because of how critics reacted to it. I can't imagine anyone fitting those roles better than that cast and I like the music, even if it's a different kind of musical. My dad (PSA, USAir and US Airways) flew Robin on his plane once in the early '90s. Malta is still proud of the movie, so much so that the set is still standing and a tourist attraction.
Another Robin Williams film that is absolutely beautiful but was completely misadvertised as a Buena Vista (Disney) children's comedy was Bicentennial Man (1999). It's a f-ing sad romantic drama likely to be more appreciated by adults. It got drubbed badly for being sentimental, depressing and sad. The advertising made it out to be a wacky robot comedy.
*edit* And this is a big one...
Blade Runner (1982)
Famous box office bomb that is now a major classic. As a Harrison Ford fangirl from way back, it's easily one of his best films besides SW and Indy. The studio f-ed with it and forced it to have the voiceover (which Harrison hated doing) and a happy ending tacked on (I'm in the 'Rick Deckard is a Replicant' camp). Hence Ridley Scott's many Director's Cuts to restore it.
And another I just thought of...
Freaks (1932)
Bombed for obvious reasons and destroyed director Tod Browning's entire career. Browning had the misfortune of his friend Lon Chaney, Sr. dying of cancer very young (he was meant to play the Phroso role--and given that he was the son of two deaf parents, much of his career was built upon mime and playing disabled parts). It's actually a very sympathetic, if controversial, film with a cast of people with disabilities, many of whom worked as sideshow acts. Tod Browning himself had run off to join the circus and was a sideshow talker (barker) and these people were his friends. The good guys are the freaks and the baddies are those who mistreat them (there's a soapy plot to steal inheritance). This was at a time when eugenics was mainstream (basically, people wanted to abort these people before they were born and do what Hitler did to the disabled) and people wanted the sideshows shut down without asking the freaks themselves what they wanted (it was their livelihood and they were safe there as a family). Once you get past the stars (and some of them are very charming like half-boy Johnny Eck, Daisy and Violet the Siamese twins, the Doll Family's Harry and Daisy Earles, Angelo Rossitto, etc...), it's really 'a day in the life' film of people doing absolutely normal things, just in different ways. It's not until the end with the Frankenstein-esque revenge (except with the monsters being chased being those who are ugly on the inside, not the outside) that it really becomes a horror film. For the most part, it really isn't, but rather a drama about human nature. The film was banned for decades in a number of countries!

Probably Tank Girl back in 1995. Probably Tank Girl back in 1995. A really fun film. My God! Awesome choice. That was a first date movie for me. I think the only reason that the date was a success I would add Goon Pete's Dragon Kubo and the two Strings Jack and the Giant Slayer (I know) MacGruber Edge of Seventeen Probably too many to list

Was that the recent one? I like that film, and a great prequel. 9/10 Both, actually. The 1982 one was also a flop at the Box Office. It opened the same day as ET.

Great film! I LIKE that movie! Good fun. DING DING DING DING! We have a winner! This film is an absolute riot fest. I'm a big fan of silly/inept humor (Dumb & Dumber, Step Brothers, etc) and this one fits right in. Just like the films aforementioned, I couldn't begin to mention the best parts. The first one to come to mind is after getting all his gang together. Well, you know what happens next. LOL, did NOT see that coming, lol.

was TRON Legacy a box office bomb??? It never got a sequel so I'll go with that one. Just a blast all the way through with great action/thrills and a booming soundtrack by Daft Punk. Really love that movie and wish Disney made a 3rd one. oh well.
I'll also add another Disney movie...John Carter. A lot of fun and sure it was totally ridiculous premise but I just rolled with it haha.
