First Time Viewing
Nothing this week
TV
Jonathan Creek: Black Canary (1998) - This Christmas special seems to be quite popular with fans of the show, but personally I found it a bit underwhelming. 6/10
Repeat Viewing
The Bourne Identity (2002; Doug Liman) - Still my favourite of the franchise. 7.5/10
Die Hard (1988; John McTiernan) - Still the best Xmas action movie. 9/10
Die Hard 2 (1990; Renny Harlin) - I like this almost as much as the first one. 8/10
Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines (1965; Ken Annakin) - Very charming comedy which I must've already seen half a dozen times, but always enjoy watching. 7.5/10

The Mosquito Coast - 5/10
Mine:
Its A Wonderful Life (1946) - 10/10 Wonderful classic that I watch every year.
Die Hard 2 (1990) - 10/10 Another great Christmas classic. Almost as good as the first film.
Wish for Christmas (2016) - 0/10 One of the worst Christmas films ever made. A depressing and very mean spirited piece of Christmas crap. I was generally just feeling bad watching this junk. Pretty much as bad as Kirk Camerons Saving Christmas.
Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022) - 6/10 Fun Christmas slasher.
Demonic Christmas Tree (2022) - 3/10 (aka The Killing Tree) Its a killer tree film. Thought it would be more fun.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice: The Ultimate Edition (2016) - 10/10 One of my favorite superhero films.
Leatherface (2017) - 3/10 My least favorite Leatherface film

Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your host (me) posts my weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. I will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film. FIRST TIME FILM VIEWINGThe Fabelmans (2022, Steven Spielberg)A well made coming of age story based on the directors own life. It feels bloated for what it is but is crafted very well otherwise. 7/10The Banshees of Inisherin (2022, Martin McDonagh)Colin Farrell & Brendan Gleeson who starred in In Bruges together are reunited with said films director once more. They play two lifelong friends who find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for both of them. This won’t be for everyone but I found it pretty enjoyable. 6.5/10Kiss the Blood off my Hands (1948, Norman Foster) blu rayPretty good film noir set in the UK starring Burt Lancaster & Joan Fontaine. Well made, well paced film. 6.5/10REPEAT MOVIE VIEWING The Mosquito Coast (1986, Peter Weir)Harrison Ford plays an American inventor who is exhausted by the perceived danger and degradation of modern society and decides to escape with his wife and children to Belize. In the jungle, he tries with mad determination to create a utopian community. The film holds up pretty well with Ford putting in good work as the unlikable lead. 6.5/10FIRST TIME TV VIEWINGWednesday (2022, Season One) NetflixGrowing up I like The Addams Family tv show but loathed the movie adaptations that followed decades later. With low expectations I checked out this Series focusing on Wednesday Addams. The first episode is pretty bad but it gets better after that and is on the whole watchable enough despite bloated episode lengths and poorly realised creature design and effects. Above average TVWEEKLY FILM AWARDSBEST FILM: The Fabelmans BEST ACTOR: Harrison Ford - The Mosquito Coast BEST ACTRESS: Joan Fontaine - Kiss the Blood off my Hands BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Seth Rogan - The Fabelmans BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Kerry Condon - The Banshees of Insherin BEST EDITING: Sarah Broshar, Michael Kahn - The Fabelmans BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Janusz Kaminski - The Fabelmans BEST SCORE: John Williams - The Fabelmans BEST SCRIPT: Paul Schrader - The Mosquito Coast BEST DIRECTOR: Steven Spielberg - The Fabelmans 10/10 - Perfection (or as close to it as possible) 09/10 - An Excellent film 08/10 - A VERY Good film 07/10 - A Good film 06/10 - A Solid film 05/10 - An Average film 04/10 - Below Average film 03/10 - A mostly bad film 02/10 - A mostly terrible film 01/10 - Awful through and through 00/10 - Not only awful but offensive Hi, Dark. Merry Christmas. Very interested in The Banshees of Inisherin. Yours: The Fabelmans 8.5/10 Loved it. It kind of stayed with me too. The Mosquito Coast 8/10 I liked it. Yeah, Harrison Ford is really good, it wasn't an easy character at all. Mine: Masquerade 7.5/10 It's a new French film with Marine Vacth and Isabelle Adjani, it's kind of a film noir/melo, it's about a couple of hustlers in the French Riviera, and the schemes they each have with a rich real estate agent and an actress who used to be big in the 70s/80s or so. I enjoyed it. The events of the movie are told in flashbacks during a trial, I found it a bit distracting at first, then I get into it. I liked the twists, I didn't see them coming. Marine Vacth is really great, gorgeous too. Loved Isabelle Adjani as well, she plays the movie star. The Horror of Dracula 8/10 It's the version with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, the first one. I like it, there's a good atmosphere. Christopher Lee is really iconic in the role. Also, it's kind of graphic for the 50s, especially the end. Horizons West 7.5/10 It's a western with Robert Ryan and Rock Hudson, Budd Boetticher directed it. It's about two brothers going home in Texas after the Civil war, one tries to help his father with his ranch, but the other can't adapt to that life, he wants faster money, forms a gang to steal cattle and becomes very powerful in the area. I enjoyed it, Robert Ryan is great. It's nice visually too. Tin Men 9/10 It's Barry Levinson movie with Richard Dreyfuss, Danny De Vito and Barbara Hershey,. It's about two salesmen, in the 60s, one bumps into the brand new Cadillac of the other, and from there a feud starts, and it escalates. I really loved it, it's really funny, human too. The acting is really great. Richard Dreyfuss was Oscar worthy, IMO.

Horror of Dracula - Starts a bit slow in my opinion, but once Cushing shows up it takes off. 7/10 Yeah. I'm a fan of both Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. I thought it was funny that Christopher Lee is Dracula but he has like 5 minutes of total screen time, in the end. He had such a presence.

I didn’t really like it I think Tin Men is actually my favourite Barry Levinson movie, among those I saw. It's a toss up with Diner.
