Everyone sins in some way and often. God unlike man, can forgive. Peter was a man, no? Matthew 18:21-22 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. That's a lot of forgiving.

Everyone sins in some way and often. God unlike man, can forgive. Unless its against the holy spirit Mark 3:28–30: "Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin—for they had said, "He has an unclean spirit." Forgiveness doesn't work if it isn't accepted. As CS Lewis put it: "You must have the capacity to receive or even God can't give." Or as Alanis Morissette put it, "I want to forgive for the both of us." Do you suppose we can have forgiveness if we realize how wrong it was to blaspheme the Holy Spirit? Too late for repentance?

Yes, true but it's continual process. Can you forgive a wrong done to you once? What about dozens of times?

A lot of those were Levitical Law, which were written for a specific people at a specific time and for specific reasons. We are not those people and this is not that time. One may as well say it's illegal to buy a beer today because of the alcohol prohibition of the early 20th century. Very true. I find a lot of certain religious people use the Bible to cherry pick passages to justify their closed minded views.

A clue is the Holy Spirit is what holds the early Christians together in a mutual love for each other; hope for the soon return of Jesus; and charity in sharing everything from their witness to prayer healing to sharing the wealth. Anyone cheating the church members are cheating the Holy Spirit, who is a divine being sent by Jesus from Heaven to comfort and abide with his followers until he returns. Later, he merges with Jesus and Yahweh. In the Acts of the Apostles, a wealthy couple is exposed by the church as cheating what they had promised, and Peter says, "Why is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit?" And then the Holy Spirit kills them on the spot. Boom, they are carried out feet first. Don’t mess with the HS, son.

I assume we have to believe that this actually happened, and not just a fable told by the writer. I suppose one has to die to meet the couple and get their version of what happened.

In fact, atheists are often the ones who bring the Bible into the discussions.

Many times I built a fire on the Jewish and Christian Sabbaths. I don't know if that was in the list.

As someone who was raised a fundamentalist, I can tell you that was never taught. Every Pastor I ever had told us every sin was forgivable. I don't even know what that means. How does one blaspheme the Holy Spirit? I spent half of my life in the church and I have literally no idea what that means.

Religious people are in my experience very selective of what they teach and what they don`t teach from holy books. They pick what they like, and ignore what they don`t like. But i assume you already knew that.

But i assume you already knew that. The question was: How does one blaspheme the Holy Spirit? Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit takes the following forms: 1)Obstinacy in one's own sinfulness, 2)Despair in one's own sinfulness, 3)Presumption in one's own personal salvation, 4)Resisting a Holy Truth, 5)Envy of the Spiritual Gifts that Have Been Given to others, & 6)Final Impenitence.

Or in other words, rejection of God's forgiveness on the grounds that either A) you have done nothing to be forgiven for, or B) God is not one to forgive anybody and that if there's any forgiveness to be given, it should be us forgiving him. At any rate, I was just pointing out that the question was completely sidestepped.

But i assume you already knew that. Coming from a religious point of view, this is completely normal. There are many parts of many religious books (the bible is a really great example) that are written for many different reasons, in fact to call something like the bible a single book is disingenuous, its a collection of very very different books written over a period of thousands of years, for very different reasons. Moreover, the modern bible is a selection of those books (so even if you take the bible as 100% true, you are cherry picking from the corpus of Christian writing. I absolutely reject certain books, Leviticus being the obvious example, it was a great idea at the time (mostly) in the modern age we have much better ways of achieving the goals (where applicable) that the laws in Leviticus are designed for.

In fact, atheists are often the ones who bring the Bible into the discussions. You should come to my place on a Saturday morning. I get a lot of Mormons who want to discuss the Bible. I then ask if they are the gay escorts I ordered, "cause I am in the middle of a gay orgy?" They leave. One stayed, though.LOL

Not sure — that list was in one of those obnoxious slideshow-style formats so I skipped it. However, without knowing what they are, I’d say I’ve ‘committed’ heaps of those ‘sins’. And nothing terrible has resulted. It’s a bullshit book, a Stone Age fairytale book for Stone Age adults.

Sounds almost as dangerous as the Ark of the Covenant: And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God. 2 Samuel 6:6-7
