I used to see bundles of split firewood out front at most of my local grocery stores (in fall & winter, into early spring). Lately, a lot of stores either have no firewood, or, they've switched to stocking only manufactured firewood products, like Presto Logs or Duraflame logs. I liked the split wood... mixed hardwoods in particular. I need to find alternative sources now.

Try Home Depot, or a large Ace Hardware. Also, I Googled "fire wood near me," and there were some fire wood "farms" listed, along with a couple of nurseries and 1 tree-trimming service.
I have a fireplace but have always preferred Duraflame. But, I haven't gotten around to having the chimney swept for a couple of years. Note to self: Do it!

Funny you mention Home Depot, because I was in fact buying bundles of split firewood from my local HD up until just last month. It was good stuff, and what I particularly liked about it is that the pieces were closer to 13 or 14" long instead of the usual 16", and that is fine by me because the shorter pieces fit my cast iron fireplace insert much better. But the last couple visits I made up there, they have NO split bundles in stock... all replaced by Duraflame boxes.
As far as Ace Hardware, yes, they do carry bundles of splits there, but their prices are way higher than at other places, so I've been avoiding them.
If you do get your chimney swept one of these days, I would be curious to know how it goes, and how much it cost, so, please post that if you remember. I need to have a chimney sweep visit my place too, but I'm going to wait until this winter fire-burning season is over... maybe make it a summer job.

Local gas stations carry it in bundles of maybe 6-8 sticks. Roadside stands too with "banana boxes" filled with wood.

Our grocery store and local 7-11 sell bundles of firewood. I think QuikTrip does also.
