Taking the Lord's Holy Name in vain doesn't count, my friend. Not all gods are named God. How do you know I’m not calling on Thor and his mighty hammer.

Consumption of alcohol has killed far more people, so enjoy your communion wine tomorrow. Yes, a simple sip is just so dangerous, isn't it? Ask your priest.

Because in the particular religion that Thor belongs to, there are thousands of gods & goddesses. Were you to call upon Thor, you would say "Thor," because you would have wanted to be more specific.

I don’t call upon Thor because he isn’t real in this plane of existence, he lives in a dream time, just like Yahweh. However, he’s one of my deep ancestors’ god and I respect my heritage.

You should check out Jackson Crawford. He’s a Norse scholar who has gone independent from the academy. He has a lot of short YouTube lectures that are secular based, but he presents the extant Norse myth into their cultural and historical context. Particularly interesting are the parallels of Ragnarok and the Christian Apocalypse as it would have been understood in the Medieval world. The Norse, as well as the Anglo-Saxon “cousins,” had no written language, so their myths were not recorded until the 13th century when some monks started recording them for posterity’s sake. That they were still popular several centuries after Christianization indicates the pagan beliefs didn’t totally die out.

Yes, JRR Tolkien, & CS Lewis used a lot of imagery from Norse/German myths in their fictional writing (& in the case of CS Lewis, also Greek/Roman myths).

They do not have the same purpose, I can assure you. Never tried any of them, for praying purposes, meditative purposes or sexual pleasure purposes. Oh okay. You should let Vegas know that, on his own thread too, on this forum.

The Rosary: Christianity and Islam in Comparison. When times turn out to be challenging, true believers stand out in perseverance and forbearance against those who become instead stressed and depressed. And while people of other cultures and faiths take medicine and tranquilizers, the true Christian and Muslim is probably rummaging in their pockets and pulling out a beaded necklace instead. dividavi & Aj_June , Have you ever used these for your religious/spiritual practices? Hi Clusium, I am not a religious or spiritual person so never used it. Even if it comes to fashion, I don't use any jewelry as anything on my body except t-shirt and trouser feels distracting.
But my grandma used to have rudraksha mala like this.
