I've watched these shows, and they're all alike.
First, we meet the person with the 600 pound life. Usually, it's a woman wearing a tent. Seriously. She's stuck in bed, gorging herself, and her children and/or husband must attend to her every need. Thankfully, they don't show bathroom duty, because I have a feeling that's pretty messy.
Then, we hear about all the struggles. They'll interview the main star, who cries and says, "You don't know what it's like to be trapped in this body!" For added spice, we might see them taking a shower. No need to blur anything out--the fat covers all the naughty bits.
Then we have the requisite meeting with the doctor. He tells them they must lose 75 pounds on their own in order to have the operation. They eagerly agree.
The next weigh-in, they've lost two pounds. The doctor admonishes them. The patient cries, gets angry, or has a meltdown. Each time, they claim they've been "sticking to the diet," which is--of course--a lie.
The doctor is interviewed. He doesn't sound optimistic.
The main star goes home, sometimes after making a scene and stomping out of the doctor's office. Then we hear what's really bothering her/him. They were molested as children. That's usually the reason for their overeating, apparently.
The next weigh-in, they've lost 45 pounds. The doctor compliments them. They all walk out happy. We see them at the gym, lifting mini-weights and kicking and twisting.
They have the operation.
They recover and continue to lose weight. Or maybe they don't continue to lose weight. The "not losing weight" scenario adds to the drama.
In the end, they've lost about 300 pounds. The doctor is interviewed and says, "if she continues following her diet and exercising, she'll get down to a manageable weight...but we NEVER see that. The show just ends.
Next episode? More of them same.

The worst is : I make my son/daughter/boyfriend/girlfriend/whomeverthefvk get the junk food.
no you don't-- you can't leave your motherfvkinghouse. all they have to do is give you healthy choices and if you want the butter or ranch dressing, get up and get it yourself.

Some of those dynamics, you get how they work, parents enable the children, children have been raised that way so enable their parents, spouses enable spouses, especially if there's a 'feeder' husband, etc., but there are some dynamics that really make no sense whatsoever. Like a couple weeks ago, guy's married to a woman who also had gastric bypass surgery, she of all people should not be enabling him and sabotaging herself in the process. Or tonight's episode, guy gets surgery, they go out to eat and he's eating vegetables while the wife and kids are having like 3 tacos each and sides, then get surprised he's mad because he can't have the food he always did, when they're eating it and a ton of it right in front of him.

Ah yes, Lupe, I could never figure her out. When she said she hasn't walked in 10 years, did she mean she hasn't been ABLE to since her diabetic coma? Or that she just gave up and didn't try?

Wonderful synopsis!
You left out the weird, questionable part, where as a child, the obese patient "somehow" sacrificed their bodies to protect their younger siblings from rape, from their adult relative.
I did not know that these victims had that type of control over a pedophile.....WEIRD.

Lupe. Oh, Lupe. Out of all of the people that have been profiled on this show, Lupe was the only one whose head I truly thought would pop right off. If she had developed any more neck fat, the upward pressure on her head would have caused it to take off like a rocket. Pop. "Oh, there goes Lupe's head."

Lupe was a real mess, but Sean is still the worst. The ONLY patient we've seen so far, who instead of losing weight, gets over ONE THOUSAND POUNDS. And how could you gain 50 pounds each month and NOT know it?

And how could you gain 50 pounds each month and NOT know it? Yeah. He was slightly large. Heck, one of his legs probably weighed more than all of me. LOL. His mother surely didn't help that situation. We've all seen how family members are part of the problem, but his mother was the WORST. Gaining 50 pounds in a month is absolutely ludicrous! I bet Dr. Now wanted to go off on both of them. I give him credit for being as calm as he is when he sees some of the ridiculous things people do to themselves.

Gabe 1972
As Dr. N once stated, "I'm the surgeon". That is why he refers them to psychotherapists.

Tonight there is Nicole at just under 700 pounds.
Yes she has two, kids and must be hosed off in her back yard, instead of a regular bath. Her BF loves her???
WTF?

Her boyfriend reminds me of somebody, I want to say some film comedian, maybe an old time one, but I just can't think of who.
