The spanish The Last Circus (2010), is one hell of a ride, when it comes to featuring black comedy and lots of "funny" Clowns:

Jean-Paul Belmondo as bank robber in Hold-Up 1985, later remade as Quick Change 1990, that's already been mentioned.

Seinfeld - Eric the Clown I love how George "sacrifice" himself, all while pushing down old ladies and kids, in order to clear a safe way for the rest of the gang, when immediately sniffing any sign of danger. Later on, the same clown tries to attack with one of his oversized shoes, and I break into tears from laughing, when one of the firemen asks Costanza: "How do you live with yourself?", to which George says something like: "It is not easy".

1934 - "Trying to follow in his father's footsteps, the son of an ex-acrobat runs off and joins a circus, getting a job cleaning up after the animals." "According to a review summary in the New York Times, Joe E. Brown was affectionately pawed by a lion during one take, requiring 6 stitches in his arm. The article also points out that Brown did his own "spectacular acrobatics" - no doubles were used."
"Keep an eye out for Ward Bond as the straw hat-wearing "Unimpressed Man" (uncredited) next to Pop in the final circus scene."

As a kid, I was not much of a fan of clowns, specially at the circus. Whenever they took a hit, there was a big loud BAAAANG! going off, and hurt my ears, and it happened all the time, so most of the show, I just sat there, covering up my ears with both hands, while everyone else, seemed to have the time of their lives.
Anyway, since Seinfeld was brought up earlier, I could not let this one slip by:
Crazy Joe Davola should have far more screentime, such a great character, who sadly stopped appearing after the earlier seasons.
