The Muppetsβ Wizard of Oz (2005) by Kirk R. Thatcher Was part of the DVD collection along with the recently seen, and much more fun, The Great Muppet Caper (1981). Obviously another alternative take on the Wizard of Oz, but surely not all that bad, just caught me at such a late hour, I might have missed out a few parts, as watching films too late, while lying on the coach, all of a sudden the Quinton Tarantino cameo had passed me by. Not sure if it was anything to bother with, and have a feeling it would include something with women feet, as the lovely Ashanti were given some magical shoes way earlier. Anyway, not all bad, but mostly forgettable, beside the fine Ashanti, and ended up with a very kind: 5/10

That Wonderful Urge! (1948). Tyrone Power as a journalist who has written a series of articles criticising heiress Gene Tierney. He follows her incognito to Sun Valley, but when they meet he finds he likes her. They start to fall in love, but then she find out who he is and, in revenge, she announces to the other newspaper reporters that she and Power have got married. This is a disaster for Power, and sets of a trail of events with the trying to get the better of each other. Quite funny, and doesnβt get too sentimental.

Just One of the Guys (1985) by Lisa Gottlieb "Where do you get off having tits?" After finding out that her big dream of winning the local writing competition, was brushed off, because some male teachers thought that she was better off as a model, than as an writer. This leads Terry Griffith (Joyce Hyser) to go on and prove them all wrong, by doing a little undercover as a boy, while also making sure she might now get some juicy stuff as a reporter, all while heading deep into enemy lines, where few other girls have gone before. Not seen this film for almost two decades, and was glad I decided to give it a re-watch last night, as yeah, the 80s sure came with a whole lot of these grown man dressing up as a woman, white man goes "DOOOOOWN" as a black soul brother, grown policemen goes undercover as students, and the list probably do not stop there. Anyway, just as many of these mid 80s teen comedies, there is lots of memorable and funny characters. You get the Corey Haim (kind of lookalike) who is constantly horny as hell, scared to death, that he might die a virgin, the reptile boy, the alien geeks, the blond 80s jock bully, and who not more fitting for that part, than William Zabka? The clichees are all over, but it is funny, charming and quite sexy at times, and a whole lot of great lines is delivered all the way through. Joyce Hyser especially, puts in a great performance, and goes from a damn fine woman, with all the right curves in the right places, but once she cuts her hair, its like Superman/Clark Kent, take away his glasses, and all of sudden everbody at school is like, wow, "who is this dude?" and yeah, Joyce did very well in the "tomboy" part, and I think it was a very young Sherilyn Fenn (probably among with Zabka, one of the few actors in the film, who actually were around the age 18-20 years, where as others seemed far more close to hitting 30) said something like: "You look like Ralph Macchio, trapped inside Elvis Costello's clothes"So with that creepy image in my mind, yeah and also having the original Karate Kid bully in this film, one was almost expecting to see Daniel with tits, doing the whole Crane pose and then kicking the shit out his rival during the whole beach fight, along with some upbeat and motivational power ballad, blasting out in the background. But of course all this is surely thrown out of the water, when she later on: rips off her dress, only to unveal two damn near perfect tits, along with some hilarious reactions and lines. Of course, not everything is all fun suddenly now being a teenage boy, as it does come with quite a few daily problems, such as getting a date for the prom, or trying to be all natural and macho, but also not become too soft and emotional. Also, I wonder how much investment Coca-Cola had during the making of this film, as in some parts, it felt like for every shot, there was at least two or three Coca-Cola logos going on in the background, constantly. I was almost expecting everyone to burst out, doing a kind of Pepsi commercial, with dancing and singing. All in all, I had a blast, and will surely not wait 20 years for the next visit: 7,5/10

The Tall Guy (1990) A charming little comedy that doesnβt break the mould, however a reliable cast makes sure itβs a breezy watch.

I remember seeing this in 2001. Basic collage dating scene film. Its nothing that good but Claire Forlani is pretty awesome in this. I saw this on VHS last night. There was a really crappy music video at the end of the tape. Actually pretty funny.

Since winter of 2007, I kind of like to start off January/February by re-watching a whole bunch of John Candy movies, as something about the feel-good tone and just goofy and enjoyable stuff, goes right home with me. Of course, surely not everyone is an "classic", but just by having Candy in them, they end up doing wonders for the entertainment part. Anyway, I am running a few weeks behind the schedule, and decided to start up with this one, which somehow did not appear when I tried my luck with the search function, then realized that one had put up a thread back in 2017, when the comedy section was still, or well, barely alive: "Use unnecessary force, if necessary!"Once again the infamous Cannonball Run and its participants is more than ready to take off, and so is the Police Chief Spiro T. Edsel (Peter Boyle) and his loyal army of followers who will do whatever it takes to stop the race from happening.Speed Zone, aka Cannonball Fever aka Cannonball Run 3. I got this VHS from my uncle, titled Speed Zone on the cover, then when I popped it in, it read Cannonball Fever, then later on I found a Scandinavian DVD titled, Cannonball Run 3, which I guess was a desperate attempt of trying to cash in on the success of the original films. However, I love Speed Zone or whatever it goes by, and a lot of it has to do with the fact that I am not a fan of Burt Reynolds, and while the two Cannonball Run films is ok, I will probably never watch them again in my life, well, maybe the first one, but that is all thanks to Adrianne Barbeau. The reason why I enjoy Speed Zone more is because I find the main characters much more likeable, and of course it comes with the stunning Donna Dixon, plus Peter Boyle as the crazy Police Chief who is quite the nutcase, plus so many idiotic situations that I guess might be too "lowbrow" for most people, but I like it. Specially the scene on the airplane, where some creepy french tourist keeps askin the man who sits next to him: "You would like my peanuts?". Then you have John Candy as the anti-hero who gets to ride along with incredible hot Donna Dixon, who plays the bimbo part very well. Joe Flaherty and his comedic sidekick played by Matt Frewer is a riot, especially when they end up crushing the wrong car, and finds out it belongs to Michael Spinks and not one of the competing racers. The action/stunt scenes I thought was really good, and I liked how most of the film/race took place in less than sunny locations. Hm, I guess I was not too fond of the original Cannonball releases, but then again, Burt Reynolds and car comedies, was never my type of fun. However, knowing the lovely Adrienne Barbeau is in the first one, I might reconsider giving it another go, the second, that I think is best left behind for now. Anyway, I guess my former rating was maybe a bit too high, and well, Speed Zone! do have that nice and cozy late night b-movie feel and the pace sure flies right off the scale. Some impressive car chases, lots of cameos, some comes by so fast, that if you blink one or two times, they are gone. Peter Boyle is surely the man who steals the show for me this round, as the big "Chief", who wants nothing more than to stop the latest Cannonball race, no matter how and when, he will put the brakes off the infamous lap. John Candy ends up having the lovely Donna Dixon doing her Marilyn Monroe bimbo with the heart of gold performance in the next seat, and Eugene Levy shows up every now and then, as the sleazy asshole owner of the car. Lee van Cleef only appears very early, but somehow makes even a rather flat joke, turn into something more amusing. All in all, not a great comedy, as the plot is thin as hell, and some of the jokes, sure do feel rushed in at the very last minute, and yet a few of the comedians and the cameos, still manage to make them more fun than not. Also a few of the songs used in the film, sure bring forward some of that melodic, upbeat and fun atmosphere, from the very first go. Probably more of a 5/10 kind of b-movie, with a stellar cast, but I cannot help it, I have always liked what it brings forward, and among the Candy films of the late 80s, I have seen the most times. So therefore I give it a very generous rating of: 6/10

Been a while since I saw that one, but havent there just recently been released a brand new film? Something about the duo going into space? I wasn't even aware there was a new Beavis & Butt-Head movie, but I looked it up and sure enough there is; Beavis & Butt-Head Do The Universe. It's streaming on Paramount+. Beavis & Butt-Head Do the Universe is hilarious.

There was a really crappy music video at the end of the tape. Actually pretty funny. She sure was back then. Never heard of this film, but I might just be tempted to give it ago, only for Forlani, not so much the rest of the gang. Another Jason Biggs early 00s film, which I guess is by now more famous for the hit song Teenage Dirtbag (forgotten the name of the band who came up with it), and a very nice Mena Suvari, but not seen it since 2001, and think it was called Loser. I guess they milked their American Pie roles/success as much as they could back then, not knowing how many films would eventually come out of the original from 1999.

The Tall Guy (1990) A charming little comedy that doesnβt break the mould, however a reliable cast makes sure itβs a breezy watch. One of those impulsive buys, I did years ago, only because I caught hold of the cast and thought it could not do any wrong. Sadly, I wanted so much to like it, and well, I think it ended up around 4/10 or 5/10, and by now, along with a few thousands other former DVDs, it is long gone. However, I could swear I saw it on Youtube (full length) a while ago. So maybe time for another visit.

Going Berserk (1983) by David Steinberg Oh man this was bad, and still I already knew that, since I once owned it on DVD years ago. Sadly, since I am trying to re-watch quite a few 80s and 90s Candy comedies, this one ended up as my pick tonight, and well, not much had changed since last visit. Surely among the very worst films John appeared, or at least had one of the leading roles in, and so much of the awful jokes were handed out, over and over again, and just felt kind of bad for him, to have this kind of trash handed in his direction. However, I guess things soon turned for the better, as Splash (1984) probably helped him out, even though it would take a few years or more, until he began getting some good or great leading men roles. From the terrible rap song attempt, to having Candy as a limo driver, about to getting married, while soon ending up dragged into all kind of weird stuff, and yeah, a complete mess of a "comedy". 3/10

Wagons East! (1994) by Peter Markle A group of not so impressed citizens, who have tried their luck by settling down far into the wild west, ends up getting a "sign" that they should instead turn back to the old and safe east, instead of being stuck in this little shithole. However, they will need the help of a strong and driven leader, to help guide them through dangerous and unpredictable roads and locations, and that help arrives through the drunken and not very motivated wagon master (John Candy), who stumbles into the local pub one night.Re-watched this last night, which sadly would turn out to be the last movie which John Candy acted in, as he died during the making, so I am unsure of how much had to be re-filmed over, also how much of the scenes were done by a stunt double. Anyway, the film seems to have a terrible reputation, even among fans of Candy, but somehow this and the later Canadian Bacon (1995), has always felt far away of "worst movies" tag, they often get thrown in their direction, at least when it comes to mid 90s comedies. Having just seen the horrible Going Berserk (1983) once more two many, Wagons East suddenly looks a lot more fun, but the runtime of almost 110 minutes, could easily have been reduced with 10-15 minutes or more. Seen it before, and no changes in my rating, as this wester comedy, would have been a pretty good company in double feature with the later Almost Heroes (1998), which also were probably overshadowed by the death of Chris Farley, before it got relased. 5/10

Itβs a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie (2002)
Decided to take a little break from the Candy comedies, and instead dug out this Christmas Muppet movie, I had never even heard of, until just recently. I guess there is a reason to why the former and superior Muppet Christmas movie, still is much loved and played on tv during the holiday season, where as this rather depressing, annoying and unfunny straight to video release, is summed up by all the lame cameos and forgettable songs.
However, it does thankfully manage to hit back during the later part.
Glad I did not wasted my time on this one, shortly before Christmas. As it would certainly not cheer me up one bit.
4/10

Midnight Run (1988), the classic road movie with De Niro and Charles Grodin. I hadn't seen it in decades, but is still as good as I remember. That is a classic, maybe my favorite Buddy-cop action comedy, and just behind Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987), in terms of being my favorite road trip comedy, as Midnight Run even have a certain of the same charm and warmth which made the John Hughes film such a great film, not just funny but also managed to find the right balance by adding more serious and some sad scenes in, and where specially Robert De Niro, I think, impressed me a whole lot with his comedic delivery and of course chemistry going with Charles Grodin. John Ashton is also one of the main highlights, hilarious and then you have Dennis Farina, in a quite scary part, and Yaphet Kotto, the scene wher De Niro steals his sunglasses, and just so many great and memorable moments. First time I have seen the movie poster without the typical red letters, but in yellow. The chicken dialogue always cracks me up, or the litmus test, but yeah, I could go on for some time. My favorite has to be when De Niro ends up at his former wife and daughter's house, having not seen either for years, and with his tail stuck beneath his legs, trying to borrow some money, and feeling like shit. Very sweet scene, and one that kind of stands out, from so many others. Or so I believe. Anyway, glad you still get a whole lot of it, even if you had not seen it for such a long time.

De Niro's method acting vs. Grodin's quiet insanity made for a great comedic pairing. Dennis Farina often played the same kind of character, but he was so perfect at it that you understand why. He's both hilarious and threatening, no one delivers a line like him, see: Big Trouble, Get Shorty or Snatch.

By the way, did you ever caught up with the made for tv films called Another Midnight Run, Midnight Runaroud and Midnight Run For Your Life (all from 1994)? Starring Christopher McDonald in the part as Jack Walsh. Only seen the first two, where I kind of liked (for a cheap late night cable release) the first of the bunch, but it soon turned into a rather poor and boring "adventure" with the follow up. Anyway, there are a few familiar names and faces appearing in these mid 90s tv-films. Think the first two are available on Youtube for free, if you have not seem them. There were also some rumours going for a ridiculous long time, that a potential sequel starring both De Niro and Grodin was in the making. But that probably was 15-20 years ago, and somehow they just never quite died out.

Honestly had no knowledge of their existance, until now. "Funny" enough, I believe that I ended up watching the tv-film from 1994, before I got to see the original movie. But only with 6 months apart from each other, and yeah, no doubt which one is the best.
