If there's one big complaint i have with this series is that it's rushing through a lot. I actually wish they had at least an extra episode to at least give them some extra time to develop Joel and Ellie's relationship. It's unfortunately really rushed. What i thought was interesting is that they layed some ground work for Last of Us Part 2, even teasing Dina at one point. It's looking like the next episode is based on the Left Behind DLC, which was done to give the player Ellie's background, including showing how she got infected. But seeing how some people reacted to the Bill and Frank episode, I'm sure they're going to be flipping out over Ellie's particular romantic feelings over Riley. Im feeling that a bit as well. In particular...Wyoming felt like our destination for a while now...and we spent like half an episode there before moving on.

This show is managing to both rush through the story yet make it so almost nothing is happening. This show is supposed to be horror mixed with drama. Not a drama with a sprinkle of horror. In 6 episodes, the show's action/horror can be boiled down to the outbreak, museum scene, and the horde (which was great, but not enough). There's a lot of nothing in this show. I liked the Sam/Henry episode, but the rest have been so-so at best for me. This show really misses the mark.

I'll finish the season, but yeah, I don't love this show. I think I have said all I can say. My opinion about what doesn't work is all over this thread.

I’m currently playing the second game. I’m hesitant to watch this show. I know Pascal is a good actor, but I really have no interest in seeing anyone else as Joel and Ellie. The game versions are already perfect.

I’m at the point where I wish I didn’t play the game. It’s almost a 1:1 adaptation as far as the story goes, other than Bill’s bit. I think I’d enjoy this show much more if I didn’t almost literally know what the next shot was going to be.

Honestly as someone who has played both games, I feel like they're better off as a series then they are as a game.
From a gameplay perspective, they're not very interesting games. Mediocre at best really. The only thing that made it worth playing through was the characters.
Especially Part 2, which in my opinion has the worst pacing out of the two games.
As for the recent episode, it was a decent retelling of the DLC story.
Solid performances from Bella and the actress that played Riley.

The game versions are already perfect. Love him in Mando and recently saw him in that Nic Cage movie, which was hilarious, but his Joel is horrible. He's nothing like the character at all. Joel, Tess, Bill, they're just all wrong int he wrong. Personality and tone of this show are way off-base.
The second game makes me feel weird. Good gameplay, still powerful performances by the actors, but I hate a lot about it.

Especially one like The Last of Us which has had some pacing issues that exists to pad out the game to justify the price tag. It's obvious to me that Neil Druckman as more of a passion for film story telling than he does for gaming story telling.

More of a passion for film story telling than he does for gaming story telling?! You've played these games and can say that? There is sooooooooooooooooo much more depth and emotion in the game. It's better written and acted. It's not even close. B-grade actors in motion cap did a better job than those in this show.

The story, as well as Joe and Ellie, was the only thing remotely good about those games. Everything else about that game was mediocre at best. Especially for a zombie game, which was an already oversaturated market. So yeah I think Last of Us plot is more suited for a tv show or movie rather than a video game. But I know that Naughtydog is the sacred child of the internet and thus any critism about their games is frowned upon.

I’m curious what you hate about the second game. Why does it make you feel weird? (No major spoilers please. Haven’t finished it!)

I did think the first one was overrated the first time I played it, but the series really grew on me. You have a point though about story over gameplay. My favorite part of the second game is actually the science museum part with Joel and Ellie looking at dinosaur and space exhibits.

The show is well acted, but from a story perspective, there's just nothing going on. Why do we need full episodes that are flashbacks and thus have zero stakes and don't progress the story at all? Did anything happen in this latest flashback that expanded on Ellie's story? It's pure filler.

It's a good story in terms of quality, but not one I was interested in seeing or necessarily liked. It's as well-acted as the first. Nothing changed in that department. Still an emotional, brutal world. But I don't get to play as Joel? Seriously? Then you force me to play as his killer? Ellie is a kind of a dick in this one too. You start to forgive her because she seemingly plans on avenging him....then doesn't? The quality is there, I just don't really enjoy the story.

Actually my favorite parts of the game are the flashbacks with Joel and Ellie. Angsty vengeful teen Ellie is definitely a bit unlikeable.
