That's what I expected you to say. Demons and demonic possession don't exist mate... They make for great horror filums, but they aren't real. If you want to find demons, look in the hearts and minds of people. That's where you will find them. Yeah they do.....mate.

Are you sure it was Rhihana music that was playing in Hell and not 80s adult contemporary?

It’s the “Exorcist proof” for God. If a demon can possess a little innocent girl and make her head spin around, then God exists. Your chances of getting a Vatican approved exorcism are slim to none... mental health problems are well understood now... Demonic possession is a great movie theme, but not real. PS... The Exorcist isn't about Regan's possession by Pazuzu... It's about Fr Karras' crisis of faith.Which is confirmed when he realizes Regan is indeed possessed by something demonic.

Just because you guys have not had an exorcism in decades, does not mean that your Diocese does not have any priests that are trained in exorcisms. Hint: They would.

All the musicians are in Hell... so hardly surprising.
I thought this was common knowledge.

That's a great point, Fr. Jack. I think it's made clearer in the book (or at least it's less obscured by the images of spinning heads and flying pea soup, per the film) that Regan's possession is the instrument to test Karras and not the chief raison d'etre of the story. People do forget that, or sometimes tend to miss the point.

People do forget that, or sometimes tend to miss the point. I think the demon is ultimately after Father Marin. It possesses Regan near a Jesuit university in the likelihood Marin’s order will call him up. But it will need Karas’s body after it kills the exorcist and needs to prime him first. Regan’s possession occurs due to her innocence, but her little body is giving out and the demon needs a new home. While his faith is diminished, Karas could mistake his possessed condition as insanity and kill himself before the demon can take control. It needs Karas to be in a state of faith, then to destroy him via his faith.

It needs Karas to be in a state of faith, then to destroy him via his faith. I've never seen the movie nor read the book. But this explanation has helped me to form an opinion about it, and this is the sort of thing that used to happen on the old IMDb when movies were discussed on the message boards. I miss that aspect here. Here people mostly list their favorites, some using a common actor or theme, but no one ever goes into depth about what the movie was intended to say, and I think that is an important thing to discuss. I don't care as much about ratings as "what was it about?" I do notice things about movies other than what it is about, such as cinematography, music and other things, but the central point of it is more interesting than just how other people rate it. Just my humble opinion.

Even more interesting is why a priest should be sent to Hell, even for a visit. Any guesses? Was the priest getting over friendly with the alter boys?
