What you do, is you try to beat this game only using the 3 lives you get at the beginning. But, if you find a 1 up or more In a level you can use that life also. Or from 100 coins.
But, if you get 1 ups from some gimmick in this game... like playing a mini game. Or getting 3 stars in a row when finishing levels... and then you get 5 one ups. You can't use those.
Doing this, will make the game not too easy. Like it would be if you used all those lives.
I'm saying, if you play this game and you managed to get 15 lives but you died once already. But only 5 of them were earned normally.
Then as soon as you die 4 more times. End that playthrough. And start another day.
Also, don't use any powerups that you collected from any mini game either. I mean the ones that you can select from the bottom on the screen on the map.
The only extra powerups you can use are ones that the princess gives you . Or I mean, the person in the castle that sometimes gives you things.

No again. The correct way to play is whatever is most fun for the player.

I'll explain why I think it's a good idea:
Because one thing about it. If you play this game every 3 levels you beat you get another life. And if you beat 3 in a row in a certain way... you get 5 lives.
So then , later if you get to a hard part in the game, you will have like 15 lives maybe. So you can just try the same difficult part like 5 times until you get it right. Even if you die 10 times, that isn't a problem.
It makes it too easy. With the way I'm suggesting. You have to get it right without dying more than a few times... maybe not even once. The game is more rewarding if you play it this way. And it will take you longer to beat it.

Those are two separate things that don't necessarily combine. Quick games can be rewarding and longer games can be boring.
As I said, the correct way is whatever is most fun for each individual player.

The best way to play it is the way it was meant to be and that's in one sitting, warpless.

Basically what I'm suggesting will make the difficulty more like super mario. Which is a good thing.
Also, playing this game this way... will make it so you won't get to see most of this game when you play it. At least until you get better at it. Especially if you haven't played it for a while. Then there's a good chance you suck at this game.
I'll say one thing, if you like the difficulty of super mario. And if you think that if that game was easier it would suck... like I do. then what I'm saying is the correct way.
If you think that the first game was too hard, or you can't beat it. Then my way sucks.

I forgot to mention one thing, don't even think about selecting continue once you lose all your lives.
Because in the first game in this series, you can't do that.
