Requiem for a Dream (2000). What happens to Ellen Burstyn alone would depress a stone, not to mention the rest of the characters.

Manchester by the Sea. Depressing and boring as a nun at a strip club.

I'm kinda surprised no one's mentioned it here, but Blake Edwards's Days of Wine and Roses is brutally depressing.

Donnie Darko had a really depressing atmosphere, I recall.
I got really depressed for wasting my time and brainular activity when I was forced to sit through The Cider House Rules with my ex-wife (current at the time obviously)

Manchester by the Sea. Depressing and boring as a nun at a strip club. I saw that movie and sadly it was so boring. I don't think Casey even deserved to be nominated because his performance was just so bland.

The Morning After (1974). A made-for-tv film with Dick van Dyke breaking away from his clean cut image as a professional and family man with a severe alcoholism problem. The movie was astonishingly brutal for its time (and for television), pulled no punches, and did not cop out with a happy ending. I still recall this one vividly even though I haven't seen it in years. And it will depress the hell out of you I guarantee.

Sadly I have probably seen 75% or more of the movies that will be suggested on here, but I hope I'm wrong. Have you seen the three I suggested? Lilya 4-Ever (2002) Nobody Knows (2004) Florentina Hubaldo, CTE (2012)

The first film to come to mind is Platoon (1986). Afterwards I felt like I had been emotionally bludgeoned.
