I've started cooking my own chicken thighs, we did not care for Shake & Bake so I'm now using the reliable Betty Crocker mix of flour, paprika, salt and pepper. We really don't use pepper but I save the little packets that come with the Caesar salad mix. I also bought a new scratcher for the wicked kitties, that comes with a small packet of ground catnip (I don't put the catnip on the scratchers.) You guessed it, I left the catnip packet on the kitchen counter and when I went to mix the flour mixture for the chicken, I added the packet of catnip instead of pepper, the chicken was already in the oven before I realized my mistake. Luckily WKD didn't notice anything different but now I have to be more careful in the kitchen. Have you guys made any silly mistakes in the kitchen?

How did the catnipped chicken taste ? wickedkittiesmom I couldn't tell the difference, after all catnip is an herb and it was just 1/4 tsp., I've been distracted a lot lately, good thing I don't believe in poisons - that could be disastrous. I'm very sloppy in the kitchen.

Maybe some of this would help .. especially IF you use for human consumption catnip preferable straight from the garden scratchmommy.com/calming-catnip-herbal-tea-recipe/

I have taken juice containers out of the fridge ... to pour over my Cherrios. Fortunately, I've seen my mistake, before I poured.

Was at a buffet yesterday ... plate of salad greens ... plate of what should have been hot food .... set one plate down and almost put French Dressing on the meatloaf and veggie plate ! Noticed just in time !

Too many to recount. Just scorched a stainless steel pot the other night... badly! Required the deft use of one of my smaller wood chisels to pry the burnt crud out, but by golly, I did it. The silly thing is, I scorched the same pot the same way about 3 or 4 years ago. Whatever happened to my time-honored adage of "Live and learn"?? I must be slipping......

Veggies put to cook and abandoned tend to be the problem chez 🐧 ... Boil white vinegar in scorched pot .... let sit until cool .... most of the charred remains should scrape out with something less potentially harmful to pot than a wood chisel. Repeat if needed ! Also works on the lime buildup in a tea kettle ... rinse with baking soda and then with plain water.

Yep... tried that - several times, even adding baking soda, which is supposed to help assist the white vinegar action. They make it look so easy on YouTube!! I got pretty much nowhere with it. The chisel was my ultimate solver of the problem. And yes, you're right, a sharp chisel can be damaging, but, I am very skilled at using chisels so I did not scratch or mar the stainless steel surface at all. The pot is now totally clean and ready for further use.
*I will concede that the vinegar and baking soda probably did soften the thick black carbon-like crud to the point where it did chisel out more easily than if I hadn't employed them, so I am not discounting them completely. Just wanted to point out that further efforts *were* needed.

Confused my container of baking soda with the baking powder when I was mixing it into a recipe for making crispy chicken wings in the air fryer. Should have noticed but didn't until I got ready to do a second batch. Tasted okay since you didn't use much, but it made them taste a little salty.

IF you add baking soda to the vinegar you cancel each other's activity out ! I boil with the vinegar do a little scrubbing with dry baking soda if some scorch remains and then a water rinse. Usually this gets pretty much everything taken care of. Then for a little while I remember to take the timer with me when I put things on to cook !

Noticed just in time ! That made me think of the time years ago, we went to a dinner theater and went thru the buffet line before the show. I had some vegetables, some roast beef, and a baked potato. I put a spoonful of sour cream on the baked potato. When I took the first bite of the potato and sour cream, I instantly realized my mistake. The sour cream was actually a horseradish sauce for the roast. I started coughing and everyone thought I was choking. It was just that the horseradish was hot and took my breath away!!

This morning Catman only put in two tablespoons of farina in the water. Thin stuff but still eatable.

I think: "I have to take the chicken out of the freezer." I see something, in the kitchen, that must be put back into the cupboard.
I go back to what I was doing ... and, say: "Oh, I didn't take the chicken out of the freezer".
This pattern can repeat for some time.

Stare at the room, go back down the stairs...then think of it.

I will take something out of the refrigerator or freezer to reach something that I need, THEN forget to put the first item back in and find it much later still sitting there! I can put the frozen things back, but not the refrigerated things if they've been out too long.

Me about to cook something. Want to check for recipes. Go to my laptop. See a 1 in my notifications. 10-15 minutes later go to kitchen. Oh, yeah, I was going to look that up.
Repeat.
Get absorbed by kitchen TV. Put on my recorded Jeopardy. Halfway through, oh yeah...
Go to laptop. Text comes in on phone. Telemarketer. Start looking at phone. Facebook, here, email.
Go to kitchen, unpause TV. Watch more. Oh yeah, ...
Maybe I'll make it tomorrow.
