I think the burn make-up was far more convincing in the sequels.
Also, it is me, or the iconic red and green sweater seemed two sizes more than Rober Englund's? Very large for him.

I thought it looked fine. Granted the makeup would improve in some sequels, but then looked too rubbery when we get to 6 and 7. And then there's the remake where he looks like a reptile or something.

It never bothered me. Later on it stopped looking as gross. I think it might be Part 2 that had it the creepiest.

I think that's fair. It's wisely not well lit in most scenes and I think only looks shoddy now that we have HD and 4K scans, but I do think the budget and the technique of the time limited what could be done on a small movie.
It looked better as it went on. I actually think it looks really good in Freddy vs Jason. It looks its worst in Freddy's Dead.
