Bonus: . Luke couldn’t have helped in person because he was stuck on Achto. This was a ridiculous but popular argument from pro-TLJ fans. It seemed to be supported by a scene in the movie that showed Luke’s X-wing fighter submerged underwater. People arguing against it suggested that Luke could have used the Force to raise the ship out of the water and use it. Sure enough The Rise of Skywalker we saw him do that very thing! (LOL)
10. ”It didn’t scare me then. It does now!” if you buy that Luke was traumatized by Kylo’s display of power before he murdered the other students - and sensing Rey’s power reminded him of the trauma - I guess there’s that. But seriously, he was overwhelmed by Vader’s power in TESB. He even lost a hand. But he didn’t retreat in a cave with a bewildered, frightened look on his face like he did here.
9. Luke tried to burn the sacred text. Luke ran around in huried panic - as if he were trying to dispose of dirty magazines he didn’t want his wife to find out about - to burn up sacred Jedi texts. In the process Yoda showed up in the jovial mood of a happy drunk to stop him. He gives Luke words of wisdom and insight on what Rey needs as far as mentoring. Basically nothing aka experience. Contradicting everything Yoda himself previously taught about training his entire life. (LOL) Later on in TLJ it is revealed that Rey took some of sacred texts and stashed them. So apparently Yoda was wrong about her not needing to study any texts and only needing experience. (LOL) This scenario is all over the place!
8. Luke not grieving Han’s death. Allegedly there was supposed to be a scene that showed this. But according to Mark Hamill it was deleted.
7. Luke tossing the lightsaber over the cliff. This could have gone down as one the greatest cliffhangers in cinematic history! But what does Ryan Johnson do with the big reveal of the finishing and meaning of that scene? He turns it into a gag punchline! Probably the lamest gag joke in a non-comedy movie. The “joke” was inappropriate, awkward, and confusing. It fell flat on its on its face. To this day I don’t know anyone who laughed at it. And I never saw anyone laugh at it in the theater.
6. Luke dying from over-exerting himself in using the Force. (Sigh!) Does this really need any clarification as to why this was stupid?
5. The “green milk” scene. Apparently this scene was an attempt at awkward humor.
But it only made Luke look a drunk who was attempting to embarrass Rey with his public intoxication. (Insert face plant here)
4. ”The Jedi must die!” Really?!? Luke saw how the Empire ran roughshod over the entire galaxy when there were no Jedi; only Sith in the form of Vader and the emperor. But now that he is older and more experienced somehow he thinks killing off the Jedi is the way to solve the problems of the galaxy, the Sith and the Darkside. (Huh??) Just dumb.
3. Grumpy hermit Luke (aka Jake Skywalker) The entire time Luke is on Achto he walks around sulking and scowling.
With a variety of stupid expressions on his face that range from “get off my lawn” guy to all day drunk stupor to morning hangover headache (when he’s not sulking). Absurd and over the top, the characterization was laid on so thick that even Hamill referred to it as “Jake Skywalker”. Hardcore TLJ/Rian Johnson fans are the only ones who took this characterization seriously. (LOL)
2. Luke left plans in R2-D2 that revealed his location because he wanted to be alone and die and never be found. Do I really need to elaborate on how stupid this is? I sure hope not!
1. Luke wants to kill Kylo (Ben Solo) because of a Darkside dream. This is so ridiculous! We are supposed to believe that Luke would want to save his father from the Dark Side (who committed real life atrocities by the thousands) but he would feel compelled (even briefly) to murder his nephew over a Dark vision about him!?! WHAT? Even the scene looks ridiculous. He stalks into Kylo’s room with the look of a child molester. Then stands over Kylo preparing to strike him with this totally psychotic, unhinged look on his. It surpasses anything ever seen from prequel (Dark) Anakin. It’s even crazier than anything that ever came from the Darth Sidious/the emperor!
LOL! Just look at this bonkers nonsense! No Sith Lord in the history of Star Wars ever had a moment so crazed and psychotic! But this is supposed to be Luke Skywalker because of bad dream about his nephew! LOL!!
