Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your host (me) posts my weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. I will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film. FIRST TIME FILM VIEWINGGuilty as Sin (1993, Sidney Lumet) Disney+Preposterous attempt at the erotic thriller with a terrible script but is watchable enough for a once off viewing. 4.5/10REPEAT FILM VIEWINGUncle Buck (1989, John Hughes) tvVery funny John Hughes film starring John Candy. An easy watch. 6/10Dumb & Dumber (1994, Peter Farrelly)In flight entertainment Funny comedy mostly holds up. 6/10WEEKLY FILM AWARDSBEST FILM: Uncle Buck BEST ACTOR: John Candy - Uncle Buck BEST ACTRESS: Rebecca Demornay - Guilty as Sin BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Macaulay Culkin - Uncle Buck BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Tia Russell - Uncle Buck BEST EDITING: Lou & Tony Lombardo - Uncle Buck BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Rolf B. Bode - Uncle Buck BEST SCORE: Howard Shore - Guilty as Sin BEST SCRIPT: John Hughes - Uncle Buck BEST DIRECTOR: John Hughes - Uncle Buck 10/10 - Perfection (or as close to it as possible) 09/10 - An Excellent film 08/10 - A VERY Good film 07/10 - A Good film 06/10 - A Solid film 05/10 - An Average film 04/10 - Below Average film 03/10 - A mostly bad film 02/10 - A mostly terrible film 01/10 - Awful through and through 00/10 - Not only awful but offensive Hi, Dark. Here I am. Yours: Guilty as Sin 4.5/10 Yeah, I didn't like it. I love Don Johnson usually, but he was a bit ridiculous here, especially when he goes on his psycho rants. Uncle Buck 5/10 Haven't seen it in ages, I remember not liking it much. Dumb & Dumber 7.5/10 Yep, I enjoyed it, it's pretty fun. Mine: One Fine Morning 9/10 It's Mia Hansen Love movie with Lea Seydoux, about a single mom, who has to deal with her father, who's ill with a neurodegenerative disorder, and with falling in love and starting an affair with an old friend of hers, who's now married. It's really a beautiful movie, I thought it very sweet and human, sensual and moving too. Lea Seydoux is really wonderful. I loved Pascal Gregory too, he's the actor who plays her father. Say Anything 8/10 It's Cameron Crowe movie, with John Cusack, about a high school guy and a girl who's a top student fall in love the summer before she's supposed to leave for England for college. I like it, it holds up. It's very sweet. The cast is really good. American Sniper 8.5/10 It's Clint Eastwood movie about Navy Seals sniper Chris Kyle. I finally caught it, I loved it, it gets very intense and tough to watch. Also, I don't think it's pro war at all, quite the opposite, I don't get the backlash it got. Bradley Cooper is seriously great in it. I really loved Sienna Miller too.

Could be paced better but certainly some iconic moments 6-6.5 American sniper - well acted but I hated it, I get the backlash. 4/10

I actually hadn't seen American Sniper before, mainly because of all the mess at its release, which turned me off a bit (same thing for Zero Dark Thirty), and then I never thought of catching it. But I really think it's about the effects of war on people in the end, and how they try to deal with those. Then of course Clint is a conservative guy, so that's his vision, but yeah...

My favourite Crowe is vanilla sky I'm not really familiar with his life, but I did remember reading an article saying that the gung ho persona, so to speak, he put on, in interviews was more a front he put on to promote the movie. I don't know if it was true or not, but it is kind of similar of how it plays in the movie, where it's definitely a front he put on with everybody. I didn't like Vanilla Sky much, I have to say.
