And round in circles we go! Yes, I had already noted your quotation of Catholic doctrine about gays, "They close the sexual act to the gift of life." And I pointed out the church doesn't say that sterile men and women who can't conceive are called to chastity. And neither is any woman past child bearing age. It's only the non-procreating sex between gay couples that the church forbids. Non-procreating sex between others who can't procreate is no problem for the church.I asked you why single out gay people for chastity. Obviously you have no good answer for that. Or, more precisely, the Catholic Church has no good answer. I already did give you an answer. The purpose of gender is to procreate. So... You have never had sex, except for the explicit purpose of procreation? You never masturbate?

That happens all the time in the Old Testament 🤷🏼♀️

But you still offer no valid reasoning why the "intrinsic disorder" of being gay necessitates a call to chastity. The purpose of gender is to procreate. And it's the purpose of unthinking, unreflective life to do no more than to survive, via nothing more than eating, sleeping, eliminating and procreating more life. Period. Obviously, as a species we've long since moved beyond that, so given this, it's beyond absurd to assert that procreation is now the sole or even the main purpose of human sexuality at this point in our collective species evolution; however, I recognize that fanatics will always maintain otherwise, and it is of course the nature of fanatics to assign their fanaticisms to the general populace as laws absolute and immutable. By the by, the term 'gender' doesn't specifically tend toward the notion of biological procreational behaviors, as the Oxford definition plainly suggests: The male sex or the female sex, especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones, or one of a range of other identities that do not correspond to established ideas of male and female.

Why in the hell any adult in full possession of their marbles spends any of their time in this world obsessing over the sexual orientations and preferences of other adults (the vast majority of whom they will never know or be in any position to receive or not receive sexual advances from) is one of the great mysteries of the universe. Given the myriad real problems of the world, do they actually have nothing better to expend their intellect on? What are the real problems of the world, Amy?

Or do you simply hold with the view that earthly life is a passing shitshow, no more than staging ground for The Divine Hereafter, and thus incapable of encompassing problems that should be given anything other than a passing glance, if that? Unless of course they're the really real problems of this physical world, things such as private sexual mores and behaviors. God does like the faithful to stick their noses into real problems of that nature, I am aware . Fortunately this is also edifying for the faithful, and keeps them from having to dwell on those worldly problems whose existence you seem unaware of; and which aren't much fun to think about anyway.

Yeah, I do condemn it and yes I hate what Christianity represents because it’s absolutely sick.
Hating a person because of their religion is bigotry. Well then I guess it's a good thing that I never actually said I hated A PERSON because of their religion then huh? That was another straw man argument. While it may be a choice, it is also something that being born into, much like one's own nationality is both choice or something that one is born into. You say that as if it's an excuse. "Nationality" doesn't compel one to condemn the sexual identity of others. Religion does! There is no equivalency here. By the way, people can change their nationality. If your nation is so bad that you recognize the evil it represents, you can defect to another nation. All it takes is denouncing your citizenship, moving to another country, and then being grated citizenship there. Just like people can condemn and denounce the hateful ideology of the religions they are born into. Muslims do this frequently, some even risking death for apostasy. If they can do it, then Christians can do it too! It's simply that they CHOOSE not to. So it's still a choice! Christianity is responsible for the vast majority of charity throughout the entire world. Historically, hospitals were started by Christian monks. Did you know that? Even back when you once claimed to be "christian," were you aware of that fact. Hardly sounds like hatred to me. That's because you're reasoning is flawed and you judge with blinders on, only recognizing the good fruits while conveniently ignoring the bad. It doesn't matter how many charities Christianity is responsible for because it's not a contest of who has the most charities. It's a matter of weighing the good against the harm. How many deaths has Christianity been responsible for during the crusades and inquisitions? How much suicide and depression can we attribute to Christian judgement and disownership? How many children have been molested by Catholic priests and pastors of other denominations? The fact that Christian monks in the past started some hospitals doesn't speak to the harm that other Christians have caused both before and after that. I'm not accusing those Christians of being "hateful". I'm accusing YOU and djorno of being hateful, based on your religiously inspired rhetoric towards a minority group. FYI, I realize that people cannot help it if their brains are wired to be attracted to their own gender. Given the history of abuse that they endured, there is no way a person could possibly want to be gay, lesbian, or even bisexual. Two things here: 1) You're making the mistake of assuming that anyone who is LGBTQ is so because they are a victim of abuse. There is no evidence to support that argument (and you haven't even attempted to justify the premise). There's no reason for anyone to accept this assertion. 2) If you realize that people cannot help who they are attracted to, then how can you still defend an organized belief system that tells them they are morally wrong for having such an attraction? Calling them sinners and broken is an EVIL thing for you to do if you understand that this is a natural thing which isn't something in their control. Do you understand just how insulting that comes off? People can't help their skin color either, but they're not fundamentally broken because they have dark skin or white skin. There's nothing wrong with them, nor is there anything wrong with someone who has a same sex attraction. I happen to be mentally challenged myself, & I can assure you that has caused me a great amount of grief my entire life, & that is over a span of 5 decades. I certainly would not choose being a special needs individual, hence I know that there is no way a person consciously chooses same-sex attraction. I don't have enough information regarding your mental state to be comfortable responding directly to this point. I have a degree in psychology and my mother is a therapist so I'm fully aware of just how sensitive this topic can be (much more so in a public forum like this). I cannot in good conscience directly address your mental condition, nor can I in good conscience compel you to share anything more about than that you feel comfortable sharing. I will simply say this: it is inappropriate for you to compare sexual orientation with mental illness, because it is usually only "challenging" for them due to the stereotypes, bigotry, and discrimination placed on that community from society. The best evidence we have says that sexual orientation is not a choice, but whether it's a choice or not is somewhat irrelevant because it wouldn't warrant negative judgement even if it was a choice. This type of judgement is akin to a vegan criticizing someone for enjoying the taste of meat. While eating meat may be deemed "immoral" by the vegan, that doesn't mean that the person who enjoys steak is fundamentally broken. It just means they have different tastes and derive morality from different sources. And to begin by telling the other person that they are broken is not a good place to start a debate about the morality of the behavior. One more thing, captainbryce : Are you aware that Christians are persecuted in many parts of the world (in some places, even bordering on genocide)? Yes, I am aware of that. Which is exactly why I've been sponsoring a group of Christian children in Pakistan who are experiencing persecution at the hands of he Islamic majority there. Something I hadn't done since becoming an atheist and embracing humanism mind you. So yes, I am fully aware that there are Christians who suffer persecution in the world and nearly 50% of my philanthropic activity goes towards that cause. Just because I don't share your belief system doesn't mean I'm blind or unsympathetic to he suffering of others who happen to share it. The fact that these particular children are raised to believe in Christianity is of less concern to me right now compared to the fact that are hungry orphans who would be forced to converting to Islam if they were ever given over to be wards of the state. I believe in freedom, which also includes freedom of religion (even if I disagree with the religion). I recognize that the Islamic regime in many of these countries is far worse than Christianity is today in practice (despite the fact that there are good Muslims out there who have done good things for the world). Edit: One more thing, the fact that there happens to be Christians who are being persecuted in remote pockets of the world does NOT mean that the majority of Christians suffer persecution, nor does it mean that any Christian who grows up in a developed, secular nation (like the United States) experiences persecution. They CRY about being persecuted because they have a persecution complex. This is something imparted onto you from your biblically inspired doctrines because the Bible says that you are BLESSED for being persecuted in the name of Christ. So of course most of you naturally believe that you're being persecuted because you all think that you're blessed. But most Christians don't know what REAL persecution looks like. Christians enjoy a privileged status in the United States, as they are over-represented in every branch of government, and have protected class status based on their Christian identity. The fact of the matter is, atheists are persecuted in MORE countries than Christians are, and usually in harsher ways.

I won't try to cover it up with some "respectable" philosophical justification that falls apart under a little scrutiny. But that kind of covering up with a cloak of respectability appears to be exactly what the Catholic Church does when it says gay people are called to chastity.

Not when you verbally abuse those that follow person of said religion it isn't. If you or myself ever said that you or I hated Judaism, & Jewish person accused you or myself of bigotry, & we responded "no, we hate the religion, not the person, I can assure you that the person would not accept it. Do you know why? Because Judaism is in their bones. Regardless if the person is Reform or Orthodox, the religion is the air they breathe. So too, is it with Christianity (& frankly, practically all world religions). For us it is our way of life, no matter where we are from. Yes, I realize that people can change their nationality. That is why I said "much like one's own nationality is both choice or something that one is born into." People change their nationalities all the time or choose to remain patriotic to it. Just as people can either change their religions or remain in the ones that they were raised in. I have never denied that atrocities have been committed in the name of Christianity. Pope St. John Paul II himself acknowledged the bad things done in the name of Christianity back in the Jubilee year. Again, you accuse me & djorno of being hateful & making rhetoric against a minority group. What is it that either he or I have said against any minority group? Just because I do not agree with something does not mean I wish any harm on the people. As Sarge already told you, "People aren't obligated to like you or approve of your life. They are only obligated to not discriminate based on protected statuses." You hate me only because I do not support the homosexual lifestyle. Doesn't mean I hate Gay or Lesbian people. Just that there is a reason why there are only 2 genders, no matter what the leftist agenda try to promote. Do you remember Knight in Black Leather from the original IMDB message forums? He was Gay, yet, he accepted Church teaching regarding homosexual acts, & chose chastity. Better still, do you remember gameboy? He was very much a practicing Gay man, plus his religious beliefs were all over the place: Raised Greek Orthodox, but then embraced all kinds wild religious beliefs from satanism to worshipping Norse/Germanic deities, & yet, he never hated me for my conservative Christian views, despite being an openly, practicing Gay man. He respected me on these forums, & I in turn, respected his, without ever getting into any kind of heated confrontation or condemnation of one or the other. There are a lot of reasons people become Gay, Lesbian Bi, etc. Abuse is only just one factor. The Catholic Church - & most other Christian Churches - do not teach that just being Gay, or Lesbian, etc. is in & of itself, evil. There is even a patron saint of gay men. It teaches that the very sexual acts are sinful, but, they also teach the exact same thing when Straight people do these things too, including living together without first being married, etc. I was diagnosed with learning disabilities in high school, & then in my adult years with Aspergers' Syndrome (which, as you probably already know, is on the Autism spectrum). No, it is not inappropriate to make the comparison of sexual orientation to mental illness or disability. In many ways, we suffer because of stereotypes bigotry, bullying , & discrimination placed on us from society as well. Speaking personally, I really wish I didn't have Aspergers' based how much it impacted my life; everything from school to work, & overall treatment from my peers etc. That is why I doubt people would actually want to be Gay or Lesbian, based on how they were ostracized in the past. And I know people who were atheist, or at the very least, not at all religious, who also were homophobic towards Gays, or Lesbians, etc. Very good. I'm very proud of you, captainbryce . I'm real glad to know that, captainbryce . It is very good that you help those in the developing world. That said, where in my post did I say that Christians in the USA suffer persecution. I don't even live in the United States, so I do not know why anybody would even bring that up to me. When I said that Christians suffer persecution in many parts of the world, I was referring to such places that you support. I live in Canada, so I too, am safe from persecution.

This kind of entitlement: the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
Specifically, I'm talking about immunity from criticism or disapproval. Reminder, I was referencing your words: "The ideas YOU express about them are also homophobic and hateful. The fact that you happen to be non-violent about it is completely irrelevant!" It implies that disapproval can't be tolerated. If it's still word salad then I don't know how else to phrase it. Men and men and women and women have been having sex with each since the cave man days. Your random insights never cease to amaze but sex has been around much longer than that.

What ideas have I expressed? That as a Catholic, it is not condoned. Do you not understand the implication of your ignorant condescension, as though because a bogus belief claims something, it is true, but one must forgive as though a persons sexuality needs forgiving? djorno , are you a closet homosexual? So why are you so broken? There has to be a reason. I think people here are kinda misunderstanding the point of the video. It’s not saying homosexuality is broken per se. The brokenness is about the circumstances that possibly lead to homosexual inclination.
