First episode is out. Pretty good. I hope the rest of the season maintains that level, unlike what happened on s2, which started off well but became nearly unwatchable halfway through. Beverly Crusher makes her first appearance in the show. Riker is in it, and so are 7 of 9 and Raffi. Geordi is supposed to be in it as well.

Second episode maintained the quality of the first. Vadic feels like a classic Star Trek villain and the reveal of Raffi’s handler, while not surprising, was great to see after 20 years.
Too early to declare anything definitive (I agree that the second season also started off well before falling off a cliff) but I like what I’ve seen so far.

Only saw the first episode so far and dig it. There's things I didn't like about each season, but like this show overall quite a bit.

DS9 is my favorite Trek show - needless to say, I enjoyed the developments in episode 3.

All caught up. Loving it so far.
Amanda Plummer is terrifying. That laugh..... Jesus. They fired torpedoes at her ship and she just cackled.
It's so interesting to see some of the characters now. Would not have guessed Beverley and Worf would be out of Starfleet, although he might still be, just in some kind of blacks ops capacity.
Beverley has some balls being mad at Jean Luc when he asked her why she never told her about his son. I understand being afraid for his safety given his parentage, but to not tell Picard and then try to blame him? Shameful.
I do like seeing the character at the forefront though. She has been sidelined for too long. Great that she's getting her time.

Yeah! She's scarier than shit.

Brilliant fourth episode - and it was those smaller character moments, reliant on so many years of Next Gen tutelage for their full weight, that made it even more than the overarching threat. On an episode-by-episode basis, this is easily the best season of Picard. The question, as with the first two seasons before it, is whether it can maintain this quality. Every week I fear that it'll finally be the stumbling block that precedes a steep fall - hasn't happened yet.
So far, it's a real treat for TNG fans and works as a legitimate follow-up to DS9.

I fucking lost it at the asteroid part. Goose bumps and a fist pump. One of the coolest things I have ever seen in a Star Trek show or movie. I actually rewound it and watched it again.
I have liked Picard from the first season. There are 1-2 things I didn't like about each season, but still like it overall. A lot. This season is excellent though, agreed.

Riker still walks like he's gonna put his head through the nearest wall. Chronic back problems will do that for a person. Especially taller persons.

WOW, this season is awesome.
Is Beverly not with Starfleet anymore? I couldn't quite figure that out. I noticed her wearing a Starfleet jacket this past episode, but her "missionary" type work made me she was was on her own with her son.
I'm guessing he was exposed to something they had on their ship that was meant to help someone?

WOW, this season is awesome. It really is. Still half a season to go... let's hope it doesn't stumble. The scenes with Picard and Ro Laren were outstanding - terrific writing and acting. As for Jack, my theory is that the Pah-wraiths are involved, tying the show further into DS9 territory. Unlikely, of course.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, they are killing it this season! The mystery surround Jack's condition is intriguing. I'm guessing one of the many things him and his mom delivered has infected him somehow. Or is he a Changeling somehow? No idea, but I wanna know. I don't know much about the Changelings, haven't seen much DS9. I thought the war was mostly between Cardassians and Bajorans? Shaw is hilarious. Such a dick. Not a bad person, but a dick. Great performance for sure. They've done a really good job of bringing in new people - him, Seven, Geordi's kid, Jack - and making them work with the old cast. The Ro Laren stuff was fucking heartbreaking. Excellent scenes with the two of them.
And Data?! Sort of. I like that it's not him, but a new lifeform. He's in there, but this is something new. This season is stellar. My interest in Trek is as high as ever. Might actually keep Paramout+ this time to explore other shows.

A barrel chest or twisted spine or something. It's been long enough that I nolonger recall all the details, but I do remember it being brought up more than once, that the actor had injured his back when he was younger (like 5-7yrs before the show aired) and that he an re-injured himself only weeks before TNG began filming, so the whole first season, he was often wearing one of those back-support things you see men on worksites wearing for lumbar support, and apparently it cut down on his range of motion from his mid-back to his hips, even to this day he still has some stiffness and pain related to those injuries. I think it even got brought up when he guest-starred on THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN as a villain (I think the ep was called "Don't tug on superman's cape") that they had to be a little more careful with him when he did a stunt, because he had an old back injury.

I can't say I noticed it when he was young, lean, and beardless, but as he put on weight, you definitely noticed the weak core, way he stood, or leaned. It's odd he was able to do "The Riker Maneuver" with a bad back, because that seems like unnecessary effort, but it's hilarious.

"Attack Tribbles" - that alone was worth the price of admission, figuratively speaking!

I watched the crazy stuff my own father (6'3 with severe back problems) did to avoid back pain, and I can agree that years of that have made his core weaker since he also avoided any exercises that made his back hurt (no treadmills, no stair climbers, no weight lifting, nothing that involved being bent over for longer periods). Age and weight gain didn't do my father's back any favours either.

I get the rationale, but there is no way stepping over the top of a chair is more comfortable. The Riker Lean? Now that I can see. I've got some back problems too, but his are obviously worse than mine. You can just see the weak core on the dude and I know I can do some of those things you mentioned.
