Watched this last night. Great neo-noirish thriller/drama from Korean master Park Chan-wook. Not a masterpiece or his best work. Perhaps a little too convoluted for it's own good at times, maybe the plot needed some more space to breathe. A couple of the visual tricks didn't quite work for me either, but certainly worthwhile. 8/10, probably my #2 or #3 for 2022 so far

That's one I've been looking forward to for a while. I'm going to ask if it's available in the library system and if it is, to put it on hold.

Shame it didn't even get a "best-foreign-language" nod.

Definitely a worthy contender. Shame it didn't even get a best-foreign-language" nod. Hell performance wise Tang Wei honestly was the real snub for Best Actress, her eyes linger, her smiles curt and her screen presence is quite mysterious however also hints at an underlying vulnerability which he hides from everybody.

Yes, the only other Best Actress nominees I've seen are the two frontrunners, Blanchett and Yeoh. All are worthy. Three very different performances in three very different films.

Imagine this not appearing in a major award ceremony as one of the nominees?
The cinematography is breathtaking. But yeah lets put Top Gun and Elvis in. Nonsense.

I saw this some months ago and found it hard to engage with... too cold and clinical, with little feeling for the characters. The acting and cinematography were undeniably good but it left me cold. Other than Oldboy and The Handmaiden, both of which I liked very much, that's been my experience with the Park movies I've seen to date.

People keep forgetting that the Oscars are the American film awards, with just enough token nominations and wins for non-American films to create the illusion that they are the World film awards.

The Gravitas that the oscars hold is absolutely sickening. They are bribes.

Really liked it. Forgot to mention it weeks ago when I saw it. Nice and complicated.
