Attorney Patty Glaser, who is representing Alonso, calls those reports "absolutely ridiculous" and hints that Alonso had the blessing of Disney to work on Argentina, 1985, even though it was being made by another studio. "The idea that Victoria was fired over a handful of press interviews relating to a personal passion project about human rights and democracy that was nominated for an Oscar and which she got Disney's blessing to work on is absolutely ridiculous," Glaser's statement reads. "Victoria, a gay Latina who had the courage to criticize Disney, was silenced. Then she was terminated when she refused to do something she believed was reprehensible. Disney and Marvel made a really poor decision that will have serious consequences. There is a lot more to this story and Victoria will be telling it shortly—in one forum or another."
Why deny it? I guess it's a breach of ethics because it's a breach of contract, but it sounds more like Disney fired her for sticking to her guns and working on an outside passion project. In the court of public opinion, they're the villain, not her. This denial probably has more to do with potential financial compensation on her part.

It sounds like Alonso’s lawyer claims she was fired for an (as of yet) undisclosed reason. The passion project thing seems like an excuse, but probably one that is good enough. Disney would have spoken to it’s legal team before firing her and they are probably confident that she doesn’t stand a chance. And if they have to pay her compensation, they won’t really care. They have deep pockets. But the real reason she was fired will be interesting. I’m guessing they were pushing back on her destructive political agenda.

I'm sure Disney doesn't care one way or the other about having to pay her. I just think it's strange she would deny the story that casts her at least somewhat as the victim, particularly when the previously reported story was that she was simply a bitch that nobody wanted to work with anymore.

“It’s unfortunate that Victoria is sharing a narrative that leaves out several key factors concerning her departure, including an indisputable breach of contract and a direct violation of company policy,” a Disney spokesperson told Deadline this evening. “We will continue to wish her the best for the future and thank her for her numerous contributions to the studio.”

The story about her breaching her contract by working on another movie would probably be the most boring explanation for her firing.

Interesting. Regarding the Kuwaiti gay pride flag censorship, I’m not sure that would be the hill that one should choose to die on. Disney had already refused to release a censored version of Lightyear for the Saudi market. Disney says they won’t edit material for foreign markets if it is integral to the plot and they seem to be somewhat consistent with that. It sounds like in Ant-Man 3 the flag wasn’t essential for the plot. I want countries like Kuwait to improve human rights for LGBT. So I don’t fault her opinion. But if Disney didn’t edit it, it wouldn’t be released in Kuwait. You’ve got to pick and choose your battles. They made a stand against the Saudis with Lightyear, maybe she should have compromised regarding Kuwait. They are running a business, after all. I don’t consider this to be a validation of my belief that woke politics has been ruining Disney. The inclusion of a gay flag in a shop window doesn’t sound like a political agenda, as gay flags do exist in urban areas so it’s not out of place. But what it does suggest that the political agenda of Victoria Alonso may have manifested itself elsewhere during her long tenure at Marvel and that will perhaps be revealed in time. I want to know the origins of the shitty decisions made over the years.

So you endorse changing the name ‘X-Men’ due to it being a sexist name? Beh, I do think it's a boring name these days. "X-Factor" or "Unity Squad" or whatever else I wouldn't mind being adopted. Lol Unity Squad. Stay away from the franchise The power of Christ compels you!

It might be a combination of that and the continuous decline of MCU vfx + whatever attitude issues staff supposedly had for her.

Stay away from the franchise The power of Christ compels you! "Unity Squad" is from the comics, you know? Captain America formed it because the X-Men sucked really bad at their mission and PR, so he decided to finally help out.

Is that why they are still known as the X-men?... Still a crappy name It's less boring than "X-Men", which is a legacy title that should've been retired long ago. But for brand reasons they have to keep it.
