The Witch Who Came from the Sea (1976) The poster and the title are a bit misleading. Molly is not a witch, but she is insane, and homicidal. Millie Perkins does a decent job in the lead, but her kills are a bit hard to swallow. Some blood, some nudity, and some uncomfortable pedophilia. 4/10.

The Diabolical Dr. Z (1966) aka Miss Muerte. Dr Z actually dies early in this movie, he has a heart attack while being ridiculed by other scientists. Appears he was continuing the work of Dr Orloff(have to check out that movie next) of controlling people through brain surgery. His daughter continues his work while plotting revenge. Nice B&W cinematography. Directed by Jess Franco. 6/10.

The Awful Dr. Orlof(1962) The first horror film directed by Jess Franco. Unlike Dr Z in the later film, Dr Orlof is not trying to control the people he uses for his experiments, but is using them for experimental skin grafts in an attempt to re-beautify his disfigured daughter. Unfortunately the unwilling women he uses do not survive. Well shot in B&W, with a number of attractive women and leave it to Franco to stick a bit of female nudity into a 1962 movie. In French with English subs. 6/10.

The Sect (1991)A pretty young school teacher becomes the victim of a satanic conspiracy. This is a first-time viewing of this Italian horror movie, produced and cowritten by Dario Argento and directed by Argento protégé Michele Soavi. I thought maybe this would be an improvement over the mediocre The Church, another Argento-Soavi effort, but sadly that is not the case. It started off well and seemed like it was on to something interesting, but then gradually deteriorates with too many plot inconsistencies. The final scene is especially awful and didn't make any sense. Style-wise, Soavi does provide some nice visual touches (he definitely learned a thing or two from Argento) and often avoids graphic violence in favor of the bizarre. However, he gets a little too bizarre for this own good, and as a result certain scenes end up being downright silly. Soavi is certainly a talent to be reckoned with, but only if he had a more coherent script to work with. 4/10

BUG - 1975 - Bradford Dillman vs volcanic bugs which is actually pretty good as cheap drive-in fare that uses the Brady Bunch set. Rewatch.

Havenhurst (2016) A young woman takes up residence in an apartment where a number of tenants have disappeared without a trace. She becomes suspicious, so when the incompetent police are no help, and since one of the missing is a friend, she decides to solve the case herself. Julie Benz is OK in the lead but unfortunately much of the action takes place in scenes too dark to appreciate them, a growing annoyance I find lately. There is a surprise ending which I kind of suspected but still didn't expect. 4/10.

The Death Wheelers (1973) aka Psychomania. A British biker who dabbles in the occult figures out how to return from the dead, so he commits suicide and returns, stronger and invulnerable. He then convinces his biker gang(aptly called The Living Dead) to join him in a rampage of mayhem and murder. 5/10.

Don't Fuck in the Woods (2016) Young people drinking, smoking pot, and having sex in the woods are being stalked, not by a maniac this time but by a creature, which we never get a good look at, that's doing the kills, which we also don't get a good look at, except for one that's pretty gruesome. There is some attractive female nudity and some humor, mostly by the mandatory stoner who tags along. There is a blooper reel at the end, most of which wouldn't have seemed that out of place if they left them in. 3½/10.

I rewatched a favorite bad movie
Dr. Terror's Gallery of Horrors 1967. I noticed this time that the cinematography is quite good in some sequences and the score is actually pretty good. The whole thing feels like an AIP wannabe (and they use a lot of AIP stock footage) I think it helps give it a classy surface gloss until you look closely and see all the scratches and masking tape used to glue it together.

Orgasmo (1969)(also known as Paranoia) A middle-aged rich widow (Carroll Baker) allows two young people to be part of her lonely life, but the two eventually hold the woman prisoner in her large estate. Could some gaslighting be afoot? This Italian-French co-production is not really a giallo as it's classified to be, certainly not in the traditional sense. It's a standard conspiracy thriller that's given a boost by director Umberto Lenzi's stylish touches and nice visuals. I was disappointed in the final scene and it had me wondering if it was just lazy writing. But in any case, for the most part this is a flavorful, enjoyable thriller that captures the free-spirit sensibilities of the 1960s. And it was rated X at the time of release. 7/10

Macabre Mountain(2023) A one day horror show opens at the site of a mass murder years ago drawing horror fans and psycho killers. The show couldn't have been promoted too well, since there are only about as many fans as killers. Felissa Rose is on hand to give it some legitimacy. 3½/10.

The concept was creative, but I remember thinking it was more so silly, than threatening. Which took away from it.

A serial killer prostitute is on the loose. A young promising detective (Chelsea Field) is put on the case and asks her police psychologist (Steven Bauer) boyfriend, for a profile. Soon he’s introduced to an attractive blonde amnesia patient (Pamela Anderson) and she tells him of her nightmares, in which she kills her lovers. Soon he starts to develop feelings for her, obviously with his pants doing the thinking. However she might just be a connection to the killings, and the closing the case. “Snapdragon” was a listless erotic-thriller. That achieved the erotic part, but well short of the thriller aspect. The curiosity here, is obviously this being Pamela Anderson’s first feature film. Before the plastic surgery. There’s no doubts this is a cheap “Basic Instinct” knock-off. Though the story’s senseless twist in revealing the killer reminded me of a little forgotten early 90s feature, but to say it will spoil it. But if you’re curious; Doppleganger (1992) . The story is very sluggish with a miscast Bauer and a real lack of tension in between the erotic scenes. And those moments don’t disappoint. However the lack of energy, and a stale narrative show why this is a forgotten staple. It didn’t push the boundaries, making it a leaden affair outside of the scenes of Anderson getting her kit off.

24 Exposures(2013) A mystery-thriller where a womanizing photographer's models are being murdered. The case is being investigated by a creepy detective. Pretty low budget, sometimes it felt like a home movie. You never see any of the murders, but there are some bloody corpses and enough nudity to hold my interest. 4/10.
