So... These last months have sucked alot. My 9 year old Cat is a Hospice case from Cancer. Movies have been a nice distraction. "Island of Snake people", "The last man on Earth", "House of the living dead", "The Devil's Rain", "Werewolf of Washington"."Death Line", "The Oblong Box", Area 51", "Cujo", and "Mindhunters" (2004). Sorry about your cat. Yes, movies can be a good remedy for that.

Hunchback of the Morgue (1973) Paul Naschy is a murderous hunchback who is hopelessly in love with a terminally ill girl who was kind to him. He joins forces with a mad scientist who is trying to create life. Plenty of gore and murders. 5/10.

Strange Darling (2023) What a trip this movie was! Starring Willa Fitzgerald ( Scream: The TV Series) and Kyle Gallner ( Scream (2022)). Imagine Pulp Fiction mixed with The Most Dangerous Game, only even stranger still.

Time's Up (2022) Typical slasher: foolish victims, lethal game, the usual cliches, surprising reveal, and a killer in a unique mask. 3½/10.

It came back bad 2 months after Surgery. We're keeping him comfortable until it's time.

Samurai Priest Vampire Hunter (2009) aka Live Evil. A vengeful priest wielding a Samurai sword is on the trail of a wandering crew of daywalking vampires who are on the search for "pure blood" since most of the human race has poisoned themselves with drugs and STDs. A fair number of scenes stretch credibility, but plenty of action, blood, and some nudity keep it fun. Occasional comic strip narration led me to suspect it's likely based on a comic strip or book, but the movie is basically live action. 4½/10.

In A Violent Nature (2024)The theft of a locket brings back from the dead a man who was buried under the remains of a fire tower in the woods. The re-animated corpse wants the locket back and will slaughter anybody who crosses his path. I finally got to see this highly acclaimed Canadian slasher, now that it's available on Shudder. My expectations were high, but it wasn't exactly the horror masterpiece that I thought it was going to be. Still, I thought it was quite good. It was a different take on the tired subgenre, done in an artsy manner. Director Chris Nash demonstrates a knowing sense of style with some superb camera work, especially with the long tracking shots. Much of the narrative is told through the point-of-view from the killer, as the camera follows him from behind. Plus there is no music score at all. It's all these aspects that make this a refreshing change of pace from an already worn out subgenre. However, I found the ending to be somewhat disappointing. Oh, and how could I forget about the killing sequences. Extremely gory and wonderfully creative. Definitely will satisfy gore hounds. 7/10

7/10Kevin Smiths take on extremely extreme religion. A solid thriller. John Goodman and Micheal Parks are very good. Probably Kevin's last good film he made.

3/10Aw man. I was hoping to like this film better. A home invasion horror film has a woman trying to steal a unborn baby. I do love the nasty blood and gore. The effects are great. But sadly thats all I liked. Didnt feel much for anything else.

4/10Very average slasher film with very unlikable characters. Good gore is the only saving grace. Why the hell is Jojo Siwa here?

A L I E N - 1979 - The set design in this is really impressive. Compared to other science fiction films--I don't think there was ever a ship that looked so busy and realistic. Even the self-destruct mechanism was a fancy chrome cylindrical contraption. So much attention to little details to make the environment feel real.

Hunting Emma(2017) Emma is a young woman who witnesses a murder and is pursued by the 6 killers across the South African desert. The 6 killers all have their own personalities instead of being clones of each other and Emma's personality goes from being a helpless pacifist to that of the fighter she was trained to be by her special forces father while growing up. In Afrikaans with English subs. 6½/10.
