The Wicker Man (1973) Re-watched this for the first time in a number of years alongside my girlfriend, who had never seen it at all. I was absolutely thrilled to find that none of its shine has worn off (she loved it as well). Creepy music, claustrophobic setting, a flamboyant Christopher Lee performance and naked Britt Ekland banging on the walls. What's not to love?! 9/10 My favourite movie of 1973 and Christopher Lee's best movie as well.

Butterfly Kisses (2018)Butterfly Kisses adds its own unique spin on the found footage genre. Sure it still follows standard cliches, but itโs how the story is set-up where it sets itself apart. Heavy on mystery with its urban legend style groundwork. As a wannabe film-maker stumbles across a box (labelled โDonโt watchโ) of a studentโs film project involving research into a urban legend; Peeping Tom. So he goes about trying to find out if the footage is real or fake, while trying to complete what was started. He gets a seperate documentary crew to follow him around to consolidate his findings and tell his story of getting this done. I was getting Lake Mungo vibes, as it focused more so on mood and discomfort than all out frights. Itโs slow burn, and sort of creeps up on you in a potboiler way. Thereโs a film within a film within film framework to the story as one film-makerโs obsession becomes a domino effect for everyone involved. Meaning thereโs no satisfying conclusion. The full movie is available on YouTube.

A movie I remember from Famous Monsters of Filmland: Boris Karloff is a missunderstood scientist who have come up with an electronic device to swap brains, without surgery. Just find a healthy young body aka The Man Who Changed His Mind. How many understood scientists have there been in horror and Sci-Fi movies...

I had a birthday last week (same time last year, oddly enough) so it seemed like a good time to revisit Bloody Birthday (1981) and Happy Birthday To Me (1981), and watch Happy Death Day 2U (2019) for the first time. And I made sure not to have any shish-kabobs!

So sorry I didn't check before but very glad you mentioned it here - Happy Belated Birthday to You โLebowskidooโ !!
I'm not a big fan of my own B-Day here but like you
I tend to make a " horror or comedy themed movie marathon " out of it myself .
Those are definitely awesome movie themed choices here ( the only one I'm not familiar with is - " Happy Death Day 2U " )
just to remind myself that I'm not the only one ing about that particular day also .
Of course movie marathons are all in good fun no matter what " event day " we are reminded of .
Thanks so much โLebowskidooโ for these excellent poster pic selections
and for your awesome movie choices here too .

Thanks mszanadu, I'd rather have a mini-movie marathon to celebrate my birthday than anything else, glad I did.

You're most welcome โLebowskidooโ and I totally agree with you here it's so wonderful mini movie marathons are such a real treat indeed
especially when we get to choose
our very own movie themes on certain event days to enjoy
It definitely makes the day so worth celebrating
in a self made traditional yet fun " Me Party " way also . I'm so glad you enjoyed your B-Day Marathon event too !!

An italian movie I watched last week called La dama rossa uccide sette volte aka The Red Witch Kills Seven Times 1972, not sure how to label it, was it a Giallo? I'm too unfamliar with that part of horror movies. Is it a curse? or someone using the curse?. The title comes from a painting explaining a famly curse that only appears ever 100 years The movie has an answer, not totally satisfactory, a few loose ends that is never explained, and enourmously enervating elevator music composed by Bruno Nicolai, whoever that was. Barbara Bouchet was the only name I recognized in the cast.

I notice a couple of more names in the cast listing on IMDb; Sybil Danning and Rudolf Schรผndler (he was Karl the butler in The Exorcist, and he was in Suspiria).

THE HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL 1999 As someone here mentioned it and I did not remember this (or had it confused with the other haunted house remake of the year). Well, first of all, Geoffrey Rush is amusing as "Mr. Price" and he does have at times an uncanny resemblance to Vincent Price. They also borrow some ideas from his Corman films like a dream sequence with his severed head thrown around like in Tales of Terror. They even have a Barbara Steele lookalike in one fleeting shot. The story is ok-although the "ghost saves the day" at the end doesn't make sense to me.
This film suffers from the same problem as GHOST SHIP made by Zemeckis and co. a few years later--it looks so digital. Too many camera tricks and edits. The house is also so brightly lit there's no sense of mood--it feels like a big budget movie set. I liked the black ghost cloud at the end-the concept is pretty damn creepy, BUT once again, it is marred by the CGI approach. They could have done it like the cloud demon in THE KEEP and it would date much better. The movie is only 20 years old and the CGI feels so dated. On the other hand, so many other things with it feel like it could have been shot yesterday. There's a laptop, cell phones, the Sharp video camera is the most dated device.

Pontypool (2008)
Low budget Canadian-made horror movie that has an interesting idea. A radio announcer and his producer discover that, during the radio show, a sort of zombie apocalypse is breaking out in their small town of Pontypool, Ontario. Apparently the virus is triggered by certain words uttered in the English language. Much of the apolcalypic action occuring in the outside world is described by phone-in callers over the air, although we do get to see some cool gore scenes in the radio station.
A kind of hybrid of Talk Radio and Dawn Of The Dead, Pontypool starts off well and does deliver some good shock scenes, but then starts to get a little over-dramatic and runs out of steam. Still not bad for what it is, and worth a look.
