DEVIL DOG--THE HOUND OF HELL 1978 One of the greatest of all tv-movies, I had occasionally thought of it but decided to finally check out again after decades. Everything about it screams 1970s--you have Richard Crenna pre-Rambo as well as Yvette Mimieux and the two kids from the Witch Mountain films. Then you also have Martine Beswick as the head of a devil cult who wants to buy a dog to breed demon puppies, which she then gives to R.G. Armstrong who was also in a demon cult in Race With the Devil. The early scenes of the demon puppy killing people is more funny than scary, but I really admire how a film like this treats total BS scenarios with complete seriousness. Crenna goes to a doctor to confess he feels alienated from his family thanks to their dog. The family worships a picture of a three eyed devil they painted in blood that is on their attic wall. Finally Crenna goes to Victor Jory for help in confronting the demon. For 1970s effects the look of the devil dog is pretty cool too-been decades but I still remembered it. I'm a fan of Devil Dog as well and I own the Media Blasters DVD, which has surprisingly good picture quality. I also like the fact that a movie with such a dumb plot takes itself so seriously; sometimes that can actually work in a movie's favor. But inspite of all the silliness, Devil Dog does have its creepy moments. The black mass ritual is quite eerie, as is the part when Crenna sees the reflection of his daughter in the mirror and realizes her soul has been possessed. You're absolutely right about it screaming 1970s. It addressed some of the issues going on at that time, like the decline in family values and even corruption in politics (I believe the son's unethical victory of being elected class president may be an allegory for the Nixon administration).

"Memory" (2006) Billy Zane sees memories of a serial killer. Not bad.
"Salvage" (2006) A woman keeps reliving being murdered
"Mortuary" (2005) That other time Tobe Hooper made a Syfy channel movie. Campy fun.
More low budget movies on the block: "Keepsake", shaded places", "wages of sin", Hell's Highway", "the hanged man", "Deadrise", "Hollywood kills", "Clear Lake, MI", "Office Killer", and "Storm Warning" (2007)...

Haha yeah the politics. That's funny I hadn't thought about it but yes, that's also one of those 1970s things. Tampering with school elections. Yeah the mirror scene was creepy. They managed to sneak in an Exorcist homage.

Friday the 13th Part III (1982), which was my first Friday movie all those years ago. I actually watched the first two first last night and then this. Watching the entire series in chronological order, something I've wanted to do for awhile now. I'm watching with someone who has only ever seen parts 6 & 8, so it's great seeing it with a sort of Friday virgin! July is summer camp season, or it would have been any other year, so it's the perfect time to watch this legendary horror series.

Annabelle 2014 I'm not very familiar with modern horror movies. It had a few chills, and wasn't too bloody. What I couldn't understand is why anyone would buy such a hideous doll in the first place.

The Sorcerers 1967 one of my old horror books had a pic of this movie so offcourse I was interested. plus an old Boris Karloff starred. An old old sorcery couple tries mind control electronically, trying to find a victim in what was called Swinging London era. The fantastic equipment looks like something a bored 14 year old would put together nowdays. While Karloff character hopes the equipment can help elders, his wife suddenly get's a thrill when the mind controlled commits crimes. It's so-so, not scary, a bit interesting, could be seen at least once. This image didn't appear in the version I watched
