I watched FIRE IN THE SKY 1993 -- been a long time since I watched it but in doing so I was reminded how much the X-Files owes in debt to this film-which came out several months before the X-Files premiered. I don't recall alien abductions getting much traction prior to this--it had been good alien Close encounters-ET-type stuff for a few years and this brought us back to evil aliens and the abduction is very creepy/disturbing.

Down A Dark Hall (2018) Based on a book by the same author of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997).It was alright. Was hoping it was headed in one direction but it went in another direction instead.

Without Warning aka It Came Without Warning 1980
It occurred to me that the alien in this is definitely much more bad ass than the predator (also portrayed by Kevin Peter Hall). While the predator got all crybaby when trapped in a net, this alien could take rifle bullets and not even flinch-and self-heal. None of that portable medical bay stuff for him. It is a very effective thriller--very good performances--unlike a slasher film there's more for the young cast to do than just react to the killer. Moody photography by Dean Cundey. I wouldn't want a sequel but I am kind of surprised there has never been one. THEY CAME BACK WITHOUT WARNING

That wasn't too bad. I just remember Kate Jackson's husband was in it and the "smart" girl from Eight is Enough played one of the kids who got high.

AND SOON THE DARKNESS 1970 - proto-slasher elements abound in this. First heard of it when the remake was out but haven't bothered to see that. This I have watched a few times. A slow burner as thrillers go.

A slow burner as thrillers go. I thought the remake was okay, but loses its effectiveness by switching up the story’s location to South America. So the danger/threat is always there, and therefore lacks the startling punch of when things go bad, which the original does a perfect job. They do add a twist to compensate it though.

Forgot how enjoyable this entry was. Has been over a decade since I last viewed. Contains graphic violence without being overtly bloody, an improvement over the previous watered down entry Part 2, has some fun and entertaining characterizations and set pieces and while it is quite brightly lit compared to other installments, (for the theatrical 3D effects), it still manages to generate a creepy and uneasy woody atmosphere. Also, with the exception of Freddy vs Jason - 03', it is also the only Friday from last century shot in the Cinemascope ratio. Sure wish I was old enough to see it at the theater when it first came out. It's been said the 3D was of the highest quality.

The Rental 6/10
Started off okay but went downhill and I don't think I'm giving anything away by saying that the ending was awful.

Has anyone actually read through this entire thread? There are some good recommendations!
Saw this on Thursday night, Aug 6, 2020 on Netflix. Some slow patches, a lot of suspension of disbelief and several plot holes, but otherwise a pretty decent until the end. 7/10
