My Boyfriend's Back (1993) Yeah, I did watch it last night, and thought it was a terrible and very poor horror "comedy". The best thing about it, was that I saw it for free, as I have several times over, almost purchased it, but often the prices have been very brutal, and I would have been furious, if I had wasted money on this turd. I guess what brought it to my attention, was the original or alternative movie poster, (which kind of looks similar to the cult-classic, that is Night of the Creeps) and that it looks/sounds like some typical late 80s horror comedy, hoping it would be a bit of Frankenhooker meets up with My Best Friend is a Vampire, but sadly it just were not even remotely close. The main character is such an unlikeable and annoying figure, that I realized the next 80-85 minutes would be a loooong time, and the only thing that "rescued" it, from a worse rating, was the stunning Traci Lind, and a few of the other characters, but the main guy, should have stayed dead. I saw Parents (1989) last fall, and it was by the same director, and while not one I loved either, it were surely a much better directed and written/acted horror film, of course within a darker and more grotesque style or tone, than this slapstick/sitcom themed trash, that might have done better, in the hands of another director/writer, but yeah, terrible way of wasting 90 minutes of my life with. 3/10 Soooooo...what you're saying is you didn't find it to be "HILARIOUS! ONE OF THE YEAR'S MOST DELIGHTFUL SURPRISES!"

I can't believe I forgot to include "kinda funny" in my description of Basket Case. When tongue is planted firmly in cheek, there are some genuinely funny moments that made me LOL. Frank Henenlotter sure knew how to blend comedy with graphic horror so well. Thanks for sharing your drawing. Well done! Yeah, I know what you mean. Some of the stuff and noises, sounds (I still am not sure, who portrayed the "voice" of Belial?) and use of special effects (very special, indeed) are truly the work of movie magic, and I will never forget the first time I saw the clay-mation scene, where Belial is banging on the floor with the bed, (I believe Frank were hiding under the bed, with this animated puppethand) then all the hilarious attacks, which features some incredible overacting, and the screaming from both victims and Belial, damn, cracks me up, only thinking of those. What is so lovely about this film, is that many of the "actors" were real people who never had been infront of a camera before, and I think Frank even at times just "picked" up interesting figures from where he shot his films, which I guess in a way, makes them look and feels way more natural, than having paid actors, trying to pretend to be "crazy" or colorful. And yeah, he made the best, out what he had to offer or work from, and did a pretty damn good job with that. Love listening to his stories, and of where and how they shot the films, but also because there is a certain sadness, over the fact that most of the places where he filmed back in the 70s, 80s and 90s, are now long gone. It took me a damn long time, the drawings of the Bradley brothers. But I got very motivated by a few of the others in "the draw/guess scene from a movie game", and were some seemed to come up with 8-10 incredible drawings, just within a few hours. Then I would be "stuck" trying my best, to finish off, this one drawing. But I kind of got a feel to it, after a while, and yeah, found out early on, that mixing drinks and staying up late at nights, were not really the "best" way of doing things, so I decided to draw at daytime, listening to music and eating some food, in the process. Sadly, as most of these threads, it died out naturally. But I have noticed, that since last summer, a few users have returned, carrying on. But this time, I cannot continue on, because it took up quite some time, but maybe in the future? It is fun to draw, and I remember a few said, that they could not draw, but over a few weeks, damn, they improved so much, that I guess they realised that practice is not all bad, and also there is so many options with Paint or other similar features, so it makes it more smooth than before. Anyway, my first, and not exactly "proudest" attempt, were a tribute to the great John Candy, and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Caused quite some laughs, and yeah, I was so proud of it, and did my best, all night long and yeah, I decided to keep it, as a nice memory, that we all have to start somewhere:

Crimewave (1985) by Sam Raimi "You maniacs! I've never seen anything like that... are you All right?"Now this is more like it! Another film, I have almost "forgotten" about, but wanted to watch for so long, that I guess it was about time to finally do something about it. And I remember it was aired a few times, decades ago, but always very damn late, so I was either halfway sleeping, or in total "coma" after seeing too many films earlier. Another thing, when the tv-trailer of the film got shown a few times (Showtime Nordic), it seemed to sell it as some "straight" horror film, and having not much else to go on, beside knowing that Raimi, Bruce Campbell and the Coen brothers were invovled, I settled in, hoping for a pleasant surprise, and I gotta say, I got that, and much more. The plot involves two absolute crazy exterminators (hilariously played out, by Paul L. Smith and Brion James) who is set upon terminating a business man, but ends up doing their best, to get rid of most other folks in a large building, during the late night hours, and which means bad news for the security guard (Reed Birney), who has his eyes and heart set up on the beautiful women of his dreams (Sheree J. Wilson), who sadly for him, seems way more interested in the local casanova, Renaldo (Bruce Campbell). Oh yeah, I have no problems, understanding that this film might not sit too well, with both fans of the Coen brothers nor Raimi/Campbell, yet I feel it is one of those damn enjoyable and fun surprises, which surely will benefit by later visits, as several times out, I burst into laughter, as there is just so much crazy and hilarious stuff that goes on, and visually it is a fantastic looking film, and loved the performances of, pretty much everyone involved, but yeah, the baddies (Smith and James) steals the show. Smith, comes out as the much fatter and mouthier version of Jaws (Richard Kiel), where as his ratty (always got a kick out of the rat-laughter of James) co-worker is not far behind, and the two is such a joy to watch, and then you have this screwball romantic plot, involving the stunning Wilson (damn, she looked fine) and the geeky loner Birney), who becomes the unlikely hero of the story. I was close to handing out a stronger rating, but I will surely pick this one up, through my next DVD/Blu-ray purchase, as I have noticed that both Scream or Shout! Factory has put it out, on a neat looking Blu-ray/DVD combo, and more recently I think either Arrow Films, or some other, has done a european release. Speaking of Campbell, I did notice he was listed a producer, and I also remember hearing or reading somewhere, that he was supposed to be the main lead (the role which went to Reed Birney), and it is not hard to see how that might have been, as several of the scenes, just screamed classic Bruce Campbell over-the-top acting, but I am kind of glad, he took instead upon the part of the sleazy Renaldo, even if it would be fun to see him get the bigger part. But I guess he was not seen as a big enough name, by the money men, but still I believe fans of Raimi and Campbell would surely have a blast watching this. All in all, for a first time watch, not really knowing what to expect, other than hoping for some fun, and it thankfully delivered that, very much so. I will surely re-watch it, as this I will be needing in my movie collection, and yeah, an upgrade is there, but for now, I feel it lies around a rating of: 7,5/10 I really need to check this one out some time. It always manages to slip under my radar.

I really need to check this one out some time. It always manages to slip under my radar. I was kind of surprised to learn of how poor ratings/amount of votes, the film actually had. But then again, I guess it is not your "ordinary" Raimi/Coen movie. But still, for fans of quirky and fast paced dark comedies, this one is sure worth a go.

That is an awesome looking movie poster/title, and I so very much wanted to love it, when I re-watched it, once more last year. But it is just something that is missing. I mean, some of the stuff, is absolute ridiculous, and so over the top, that yeah, I gave it a 5/10, not bad yet I just hoped for something a bit more in return. Then I read somewhere, that my DVD copy, might be a cut version, as it sure felt like something were lacking, in both the blood & gore and a few potential nude scenes, where a certain hot female guest, at the hotel, somehow were about to show it all, then just, nothing happened.

I got the Kino Lorber Blu-ray, which seems to have the longest run time of what's been released on home video. That particular character (the one who lures older men back to her room with a series of sob stories?) did not show it all here, either.

But I guess that means the chances of me, doing a double-dip of this film anytime soon, is not very likely.

Just your average mob movie that also happens to be ripping off Carrie and The Exorcist while taking place at a drive-in theater next to a swamp. Slow, nonsensical but I couldn't help but fall for its charms. 6/10

A mixed bag to be sure, but this film doesn't get nearly enough love. Wes was clearly undermined by the studio and the film feels muddled as a result, but there's some good character stuff in there and it has its share of offbeat humor as well. And there's also a basketball to the face, of course. (Rewatch) 6/10

It was a bit of sci-fi/teenage fantasy/romance, then it headed into much further and surely darker territory, but it felt like never digging deep enough, and only scratched the surface, at most. Still a little late night sci-fi/horror favorite, but one that could have been a lot better, or creepier, without the comedy/feel-good tone.

The Psychic (1977) by Lucio Fulci Had not seen this one, since around 2008-09, and thankfully, this were a much more pleasant re-watch, than a lot of the other 70s films of Fulci. An incredible beautiful shot film, visually it was probably among his finest hour, and the story and pace moved very well. The music is also quite good, and for me, this just might be my favorite, at least of those more 70s giallo themed films of his, and where The Woman In a Lizard Skin earlier this winter, ended up more as a too slow moving and kind of forgettable ride, The Psychic left me with wanting to keep a hold of it, and maybe it will go further up, on the rating scale, with another re-visit. Also, the awesome looking movie poster and DVD artwork, makes it seems like a combination of the legendary H.G. Giger work to ELP and Brain Salad Surgery album cover, along with the Dario Argento film, Inferno. As of now, it lies around a: 6,5/10
Hard Rock Zombies (1985) By Krishna Shah Another one, of these mid-late 80s on cashing in on the rock and metal craze, along with horror and the VHS format, and I guess by picking the zombie genre, it would most likely be a more cheaper way of doing things, than the more supernatural stuff, like so many others headed for. Beside Trick or Treat (1986), most of these releases, have been either dull or just plain bad, but Hard Rock Zombies actually kind of stood out, not that far off Rock 'N Roll Nightmare (1987), in that the absolute cheese and comedy and all the over the top silliness, makes up for what it lacks in characters and story. The music and songs written for the film, is not all that bad either. In fact, the rock ballad, is damn catchy and sweet. Anyway, we got zombies, rock music, Hitler, nazis, midgets, groupies, werewolves and a whole bunch of other weirdos and creeps, so it never gets boring, that's for sure. Still, I was kind of amazed, or surprise to the see the Cannon logo, early in. The film however, feels like almost a homemade release at times, but somehow, it just adds to the b-movie charm. But one of those, for specially intererested, or of those that just have to watch every rock/metal horror film, made during the 80s. Still, I kind of were amused a few times, and the music were surely the best thing about the film, so I end up with a very kind: 5/10

The Psychic is one I haven't seen yet, but I'll likely check it out if I come across it. Have to admit I'm not exactly a big fan of Lucio Fulci, but I am curious about this one. Plus it has the lovely Jennifer O'Neill which is a good thing. You're right about the poster art being similar to Argento's Inferno.

Have not seen her in too many films, but damn, when I looked her up at wikipedia, supposedly been married 9 times. Yeah, I guess I will never quite become a big fan or admirer of most of the work by Fulci, but he sure has left us with quite some unforgettable films, either through being visually stunning, or of those that were just down right nasty as hell. The Psychic is one that belongs in the top tier, along with The Beyond, as one of his most visually impressive films, but the latter also included way more of the gruesome and nasty stuff, where as The Psychic probably held back a bit, even if there were some brutal scenes in that one as well.

ALIEN PREY 1977 -- Norman J Warren is a genius. This is really well-made piece of exploitation sleaze that somehow also works as highbrow arthouse science fiction or existential character study of a murderous lesbian and her captive girlfriend. I am so impressed that he could squeeze out more cerebral qualities from this plot. This is what you don't see anymore. The characterization is so well done and the acting--considering that the three leads are shown naked in explicit moments and yet their performances are so--treating the subject matter as if its Titus Andronicus. I can't wait to check out--Terror was it? Mentioned here. I think it’s the best of his work from what I’ve seen. Sort of a unique balance of where he started (sexploitation) to where he eventually headed (horror). ‘Terror’ was a lot of fun too. Some funny moments, nice visual strokes and a crazy last half-hour.
