The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb 1964, directed by Michael Carreras, staring Terence Morgan, Ronald Howard, Fred Clark, Jeanne Roland. Hammer horrorr and the second of four Mummy movies they did. When European Egyptologists discover the tomb of the Egyptian prince Ra, an American entrepreneur and investor insists on shipping the treasures and sarcophagus back to England for tour and display, and offcourse it wakes up...with a twist ending. Not a great horror movie, but at least it's not boring, and very strange to see Fred Clark in a horror movie as I associate him more with comedies.

I saw the much acclaimed film noir, Detour for the first time a couple of hours ago. All the hype about the film must have set me up for a letdown. To me the whole story was rather predictable. The most annoying part of the film was the "femme fatale". Of course, she was supposed to be unlikeable but she was worse than that. Well, at least I can say I have seen the film.

Fangs of the Living Dead
Must say it was pretty unexciting and below average movie. Anita Ekberg and couple of other girls were beautiful but that was all the movie had to offer.
3/10

Re-watched Blood Beach (1980). The film’s poster artwork along with the tagline sells it; ”Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water... you can't get to it!". Nice. However the end result isn’t as striking. Simply an okay creature-feature that squanders it’s concept, possibly a little too dry and lackadaisical headed by charmless leads. Not enough of John Saxon as cranky police captain and Burt Young as a sarcastic detective. Most of the time they’re standing around clueless and bickering to what’s going on, but I actually enjoyed all their scenes. Can’t say the same for everything else, including some of the repetitive, if rib-tickling attack sequences. In the end it doesn’t add up to much with the decent looking monster design (when we finally see it) wasted for quite a lame, and unimpressive climax, but at least it had wicked closing shots. I always felt the poster is more impressive and you can easily imagine a much better film just by looking at it's premise, than what they actually delivered.

Summer of 84 (2018) is another one of those 80's set movies for the nostalgia crowd, so naturally I ate it up like Lardass at the pie eating contest! It's a mixture of Fright Night, Risky Business (the soundtrack) and Netflix's Stranger Things. It's not really a horror movie even though the poster presents itself that way, more of a mystery thriller, but horror fans will appreciate it I think. It may not be a total horror movie but that ending is disturbing.

Reading through these intelligent posts prompted me to recommend this obscure gem from 1968. It got excellent reviews at the time and I was impressed when I saw it at the drive-in. Excellent cast with a manipulative Tuesday Weld acting rings around a befuddled Perkins, and Beverly Garland (It Conquered the World, The Alligator People) in a supporting role.

Another from 1968. A non-horror horror movie. Roger Ebert called it "disturbing". I'll leave it at that.

Don't Breathe (2016) - 7/10 I'm sure most of you know what this movie is and what it's about, so no need for exposition. I like the twists and turns the movie takes and Stephen Lang plays a great intimidating villain. Director Fede Alvarez also brought in Jane Levy from the remake of Evil Dead, another film he done. I'm starting to see a future scream queen here. However, as smart and unpredictable as the film can be, I will admit it does bend reality a LOT. I know it's a movie, but I was befuddled by the blind man's sheer competence at his combat when fighting the burgulars. I also get that he's trained with military skill, but having a blow to the head by a bottle should at least keep him down, for instance. Or when he somehow escaped that hand cuff firmly attached and caught up with the two, and shooting the guy that survived this entire movie, all that way from the basement to the front door! WTF!!! But nitpicks aside, I enjoyed it. Of the two films Alvarez made (the other being Evil Dead), I prefer this one.

The Raven 1963, directed by Roger Corman. The lighter side of horror movies. Having seen some of the earlier Roger Corman - Vincent Price movies I think helped me thinking this was a very entertaining movie, at least for me.

1985. Original title: Titan Find. (The monster is from Titan.) Entertaining man-in-monster-suit nonsense enhanced by truly batty performance by Klaus Kinski.

"Deep Rising" (1998)
I just acquired the 20th Anniversary Special Edition Blu of this ass-kicking modern creature feature.
It's a highly entertaining combination of action and horror, with quotable lines, a superb cast, an appropriate amount of monster mayhem, some VERY juicy gore, and a thunderous Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack.

Just makes you wonder what was sold first; the poster idea or script. At that time, I would think this would be right up John Sayles’ alley.

The Orphanage 2007 ( El orfanato), Spanish horror directed by J.A. Bayona, with a Spanish cast plus Geraldine Chaplin. Atmospheric and creepy, with a satisfying conclusion.

Curse of the Mummy's Tomb---the sound of the mummy's breathing was actually a pretty neat idea. Kind of spooky.
Deep Rising-- Not so much a horror film as a comedy-adventure--but better than it is given credit for. The escape on jet skis was neat.
The Raven is amusing.
Dr. Craven: [to the raven] Are you some dark-winged messenger from beyond? Answer me, monster, tell me truly! Shall I ever hold again the radiant maiden whom the angels call Lenore?
The Raven: How the hell should I know?
