American Nightmare (1983) Pretty decent Canadian thriller that very much so feels like a giallo. I really wasn't all too familiar with any of the cast, except for Michael Ironside, who is always terrific. I'd really love to see this get remastered for blu-ray. Thanks so much schizkebab for this movie recommendation . Surprisingly I have never heard of or seen this film ( from the Wikipedia profile page it seems a bit intriguing too ) . I also really like Canadian films from the 1980's too( awesome movie poster for this one too ! ) . I own a copy of this on vhs, but haven't viewed yet. Yes, the Canadians gave us some excellent horror outings in the late 70's and early 80's.

"The Thing" (1982)
I watched this sci-fi / horror classic last night to commemorate the films' 35th anniversary. Still quite potent, an interesting mix of paranoia, isolation, special effects showcase, atmosphere, and very fine ensemble acting.

Actually the original " Rosemary's Baby 1968 " is about to start in a couple of minutes on THE MOVIE CHANNEL if you are interested sagenesse . Thankfully I never saw or heard of the remake either . IMPO - nothing can replace the 1968 original . Thanks but I have it on DVD. You're welcome sagenesse . I have this film on DVD as well but any time I get a more quick & convenient chance to watch it on cable TV I just go for it then .

The Prowler (1981) - Run-of-the-mill slasher flick from back in the day. The Savini effects are good and there's some suspense but I couldn't help thinking that I was watching Friday the 13th Part 2 (made that same year) ....Hell, the female lead bears an uncanny resemblance to 'Ginny' from F13 Pt 2 and there's even a scene with a pitchfork that looks eerily familiar. Hmm. Not bad, I guess. "6/10"

That's the one. I don't like rats especially king sized ones. That's a phobia of mine. I was able to watch empire of the ants. But rats is just too much. I almost had a heart attack. That's not a fun movie! By the way how've you been? We've been rollin in different circles on different parts of the board lately I can understand your fear / phobia of very large rats of that particular size ( and if they really did get that big we would all be in real trouble ) . Thankfully pet / domestic rats do not get that big also they are usually harmless , friendly , and are clean health-wise ( meaning not carrying any diseases ) . On the other hand - I would never touch a wild rat because those tend to be a bit more aggressive in nature and could pose a real danger to your health ( could very possibly carry diseases from their unclean environments like the sewers ? ) . Well now that the rodent lesson is over with here . As for me I have been a bit busy on the homefront and wasn't on the boards a whole lot just here and there at certain times but not really constant the weeks before that . I go through this sometimes when I don't have much to say online either - but I believe I'm back for now . Thanks so much for your concern on asking me about this - I really appreciate it too . I really hope you are well and enjoying these excellent boards too . I'm actually looking forward to the Twilight Zone July 4th Marathon on SyFy very soon too ( it's my twice a year fun little tradition since I signed up on the old IMDB 8 years ago ) . I posted the announcement for it on our newest TZ SubBoard there too . As for this subject post - I'm currently watching ( and it just started up now ) The Hills Have Eyes 1977 . Rats are unwelcome in my universe pet or otherwise. I've seen some huge ones walking around new york city. You really know your rats! But anyways I'm glad you're well. And don't sell yourself short, you always have something good to say. I am always enjoying these boards. Enjoy the twilight marathon! Maybe I will check it out. Or I may just wait till I buy the dvd set.

As for the Twilight Zone Marathon and the DVD Collection I totally recommend watching both here ( also purchasing the DVD Collection too ) it's so completely worth it - IMPO of course . Here is my announcement thread for this one - only a week away now . Twilight Zone July 4th 2017 Marathon on SyFy ! Thanks again jayhn1111 for your reply .

At the moment I'm watching Silent Hill 2006 IMPO - Another excellent film - dark & mysterious . Also really liked the storyline history of the town and how it all came to be the nightmare that was created there after . Plus all the music scores are relaxing , peaceful , and truly memorable too .

"Cry of the Banshee" (1970)
Not a great horror film at all, but reasonably entertaining. Vincent Price is in fine form, as could be expected, and the supporting cast is solid, including beautiful women Essy Persson and Hilary Heath.

"The Frozen Ground" (2013)
Okay thriller based on the real life murder spree of serial killer Robert Hansen. The Alaskan setting is the best component, but the cast is good, too, especially Nicolas Cage, who delivers one of his more straight faced, earnest performances.

The Lost Continent(1968) 6/10 FTV No dinosaurs in this version but they do have a funky looking giant crab and giant scorpion and some man-eating seaweed.

Another film I watched late last night on one of the SHOWTIME Channels The Funhouse Massacre 2015 . A black comedy type slasher flick way out there crazy but the main storyline made it interesting enough to watch .

Burying the Ex (2014)I only bought this because of the name of Joe Dante, and well ok, I admit, because of Alexandra Daddario too. Anyway, the last "new" Dante picture I saw was of Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003), which I found to be a horrible movie, and I was very disappointed to learn how this once talented guy who used to made one great movie after another during the 70s and 80s, ended up with these big budget soulless CGI turkeys starring "talents" such as Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman. Anyway, Burying the Ex comes with a not so groundbreaking plot, where we have some whimpy guy called Max (Anton Yelchin) being bossed around by his psychotic girlfriend Evelyn (Ashley Greene), and one day he ends up meeting the free-spirited and sexy I Scream seller Olivia, played by Alexandra Daddario, and that means serious trouble as Evelyn do not appreciate any competition towards her one true love. In a weak moment, poor Max decides to declare his everlasting love for his psycho girl, and in some freakish way, along with the "help" by some random statue lying around in his horror related shop, it later on goes to show that "true" love can survive anything. To cut a long story short, the psycho bitch suddenly dies, only to come back from the dead to make Max's life a living nightmare. It is not a very good movie, there is just too much cheap or vulgar slapstick "comedy" going on, and after a while with farting jokes, throwing up jokes and a extremely annoying and unfunny fat douchy sidekick (who we are gonna believe is screwing around with the hottest women in America 24/7), you end up with a rather poor and forgettable horror-comedy surrounding a theme/plot that has been done many times before. It was a nice touch to watch Dick Miller show up here, not a big part, but still it was nice of Dante. I wanted to like the film, because of Joe Dante and him making another horror related movie, but this was not an impressive work, and while it never became boring, and I think it deserves a: 4/10 disturbia with Shia LeBeouf underrated gem - has Hitchcock and Rear Window all over it. fun ride 7/10

I agree - perfectly put reply here too . It is almost like a remake of Hitchcock's Rear Window with a bit of a modern twist as well .

Last night I watched Wolfen (1981) on my old bare-bones Warner DVD. A sub-species pack of wolves surviving in the urban decay of the South Bronx in New York City go on a killing spree when their hunting ground is threatened by condo development. Quite an unusual horror film; symbolic and allegorical. Definitely a thinking person's horror movie. Moody and creepy. Good performances from the cast, including Albert Finney, Diane Venora, and especially Gregory Hines as the ever so hip and cool coroner. Tom Noonan is also memorable as the eccentric zoologist.
Such a shame that director Michael Wadleigh was very unsatisfied with the final cut, and basically disowned the film. He must have gotten into some ugly battles with the producers or studio executives and making this movie was probably an unpleasant experience for him, which would explain why he has not made another feature film since.
Wolfen is badly in need of a special edition blu-ray release.
