On Amazon Prime. It’s by Asghar Farhadi, who has a pretty impressive portfolio of movies made in Iran and in Europe (his A Separation won the Best International Film Oscar). A man in debtor’s prison (that’s a thing in Iran apparently) hopes to use a stash of gold coins found by his girlfriend to pay off part of his debt and be released. When things don’t go according to plan, he decides to find the legitimate owner of the coins and return them instead. When the media gets wind of it, he becomes a hero – but only temporarily, before events unfold that put his hopes for a new life in jeopardy.
Pretty good drama, well worth a watch. I am not a HUGE fan of Iranian cinema but I have very much enjoyed the four or five movies that I have seen from this director.
